Great tool for sighting your gun.
Lacy Winston✓ Verified PurchaseDecember 19, 2023
I purchased this item for my Hi-Point C9 to help me better sight it in at longer ranges. The item worked great as far as the laser working, batteries and fitting well in my pistol. It also is good to get the general idea of where the POI will be at the distance you wish to set your gun up for with your particular site picture.

The only thing is that this boresight is not useful at all if you are outside in the sun. There is no way on earth to see the dot in daytime conditions at 15 yards which is where I was trying to sight in my gun. This may be the case with all boresights and not something that is a major issue with this specific one. Pardon me if I am a newbie to them but the best way to learn sometimes is by trying different things. I would suggest that this boresight be used inside at a range or in your house if you have the distance needed. Or you could wait until dusk if you definitely need to sight in your gun outside.

The last thing is that the boresight will not self extract from the chamber like a normal shell would. Of course this is probably by design so to insure a snug fit in the chamber to make sure it is centered properly. Not an issue but can scare the crap out of you when you first go to use it (especially if you don't read the operating instructions like me to know to use the end of an eraser on a pencil to dislodge it).

I am very happy with my purchase of this item but I thought it may help others make a decision from my observation and mistakes.
Laser not centered
Wade B.✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 23, 2023
This was a waste of money. The laser isn't centered in the device, so if you spin it you can see the laser move in a circle. You'll install it once and it'll shine right. Remove it, put it back in and it'll shine left... You get the picture. It doesn't do the job it's designed to do. I attempted to use the adjustment screws on the device and they are made of some sort of super brittle brass/cheap metal. They chipped into pieces using the proper size precision flathead... So now I'm left with a laser boresight that doesn't shine in a straight line and more than likely a void warranty because of the damaged screws. Stay away from this one.

UPDATE: They replaced the damaged product no questions asked. The new boresight functions properly. 1 star increased to 4 star. Recommend checking this on a known good gun to verify it's centered before using on a weapon with new sights.
A good tool for sighting in at relatively short distances.

I got another one of these for a 9mm luger pistol a few years ago, and I haven't used it much, but it worked well when I first got it, and still does. The main thing I use it for is making sure my laser targeting accessories are properly aligned with the bore at close range, "self-defense" distances (e.g., inside 20 yards), so I only have to use it about once a year or so, or less. Don't know how much I'd trust this particular tool for longer range sighting applications.

I tested this .380 ACP version as soon as I got it, just to make sure the dot stayed in the same place relative to my laser sight no matter how much I turned the boresight in the barrel. It did, so the one I received is not "off," and works as it's supposed to. With that said, the MAXIMUM recommended sighting distance for this tool is "20-30 yards," so don't expect the tool to be super accurate at any distances beyond that.

The tiny adjustment screws on the sides of the boresight are glued in place, because once the laser is calibrated at the factory, the maker doesn't want the end user screwing around with the alignment, and then blaming them because the tool's not working right.

The battery life (it uses two tiny coin cells) is expressly rated at "less than one hour." This is not a "defect." A laser that can make a visible dot on a surface 25 yards away needs a lot of power, and will drain such tiny batteries pretty fast if you leave it on for any significant length of time. Thus, if you expect/need to use the boresight for long periods of time, just get lots of spare batteries. These little coin cells are cheap on Ebay. You can get a dozen of them for something like ten bucks.

Bottom line: this boresight works just fine for a device in its price range, in every respect, if it's used as directed. If you know/understand its limitations; don't expect miracles, and don't happen to receive a "lemon" that got knocked out of alignment somehow before it got to you, you'll be happy with it. I know I am, and this is my second one.
Tips for XDM ELITE OSP 9MM
BigTwinRider1964✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 19, 2023
I used this to zero in my pic rail mounted laser sight for my XDM ELITE OSP 9MM.
I originally had my rail mounted laser sight zero'd to my iron sights. At 20' the lateral adjustment required was extremely small to align with this bore sight. I have yet to actually go to the range and do a proper on paper zero.
When getting this laser bore sight (LBS) into my barrel, I thought I could slide it into my magazine, insert the mag into the Harwell, then operate the slide gently to insert the LBS into the barrel. The LBS was too long for that. I couldn't get the magazine more than an inch into the magwell.
So, I locked the slide back, pointed the barrel down, and through the ejector port dropped the LBS into the barrel, then gently released the slide to gently seat the LBS into place.
Got my laser dots to align perfectly at 20 ft.
Lockung my slide back, the LBS wouldn't shake out.
Went to the kitchen and grabbed a clean plastic drinking straw and pushed it in through the muzzle end of the barrel and was able to unseat the LBS with a firm push.
After the LBS was removed I put it back in again to confirm the LBS was perfectly on axis in alignment. It was. Wash rinse repeat.
Perfect alignment again
Apparently I got a good unit. Some reviewers didn't, or perhaps they damaged theirs in the barrel seating process. Who knows?
Anyway, it worked exactly as advertised. I would say its a precisely manufactured product. I recommend and would definitely buy again.
