Key features

  • Unglazed organic clay pot intensifies flavors and seals in essential nutrients, enzymes and vitamins
  • Aluminum and lead free. No non-stick chemicals contacting your food
  • Low temperature yogurt maker- probiotic rich and extra nutritious. Greek, regular or yogurt cheese
  • Germinates brown rice and makes perfect whole grains
  • Fully programmable and up to 4 times faster than conventional slow cookers
  • Clay is porous. Heat and moisture circulate through the pot during cooking, unlike metal or enamel-lined pots; Clay acts as a natural insulator that holds and absorbs heat to cook foods slowly and evenly bringing out earthy flavors and textures. Naturally thermal, clay cooks 4 times faster and stays warm longer. Cut your energy usage in half.
  • Clay is alkaline. Clay interacts with acidity in the food, neutralizing the pH balance. Highly acidic foods like tomato sauce will become naturally sweet when cooked in clay. Foods cooked in clay taste more robust with authentic flavors and textures.

Hands Down The BEST Clay Pot Cooker on ANY Market Non Toxic Non Stick

I initially wanted to call this review 5 years late but I quickly realized that it was not at all why I waited this long to write a review of my VitaClay cooker and give an accurate review - the kind that a real cook can appreciate. I wanted to really use this cooker in all kinds of ways, in all kinds of situations with all kinds of foods. 5 years of use did that. There was almost nothing I cooked in this VitaClay cooker. I cooked all the usual suspects - beans from scratch, soups, stews, proofed bread dough, made yogurt, you name it. A lot went on with my clay cooker in 5 years. And it took a lot to get it too. In the early days of Amazon Canada, where I lived for a short while, I could get little else other than books and DVDs. I had to order the VitaClay cooker stateside and bring it up. It took very little time for me to fall in love with the multi use of this appliance but more than that, I was blown away at the quality of clay used. I had purchased clay cookers in the past that had off gassed to a level that made me suspect some toxic materials and had to cease using them. What did this VitaClay pot do over time? It became more and more non stick. In fact it became so non stick that I stopped cooking all rice - black, sushi, brown, and jasmine rice on the stove top. By the way, brown rice comes out PERFECT in the cooker, something I was never able to fully achieve on the stove top. To clean, all I need to do is soak in some hot water and a little organic dish soap, rinse well and let dry. But I digress. This cooker is my definitive appliance in my kitchen and I loved it so much, I bought another one for my Mom in Canada.
Amazing yogurt maker with slightly smaller volume than it should have

This makes great yogurt every time. If you like your yogurt a little bit tangy like me, I suggest to ferment it in this machine for about 20 hours, then carefully take to the refrigerator and rest for at least 4 hours. It takes a day to get great yogurt.

There is only one design choice here that annoys me. The capacity of the container is 2 quarts, but that does not mean you will be able to fit the whole half gallon (2 quarts) milk in here. 2-quarts is when you fill the container completely, but if you do that, the lid will submerge in the milk and some will spill. You don't want that. Also think about the volume of the starter. That is an additional 1/4 cup. So you need to take about one cup out from the half gallon milk when you make the yogurt. Dear VitaClay designers, in the new version, please increase the 2-quarts volume by an additional cup so that we can turn the whole milk carton into yogurt.
Doesn't heat properly and gives off scum from clay pot.

I wanted to love this, but it is not a viable product. Many thanks to Amazon for their prompt and cheerful return of it. Here is what happened: I upacked it and washed the clay bowl before testing it. I tested it with plain water. I put it on High and left it to run all day to see what temperature it would run at. It leveled out at a maximum of 160 degrees Fahrenheit, after heating up for about 6 hours on high. This is not "high" by any slow cooker standards. Then I let it cool down and tried the yogurt setting. I started with water at 107 degrees from the tap. For the first two hours the temperature dropped steadily. Then in the third hour it started to make it's way back up but only reached 103.5 after 6 hours. I spoke to the manufacturer who told me that they have designed this to operate at 110 for yogurt. They also told me that both the high and the low setting will bring water to a boil but it takes the low setting twice as long to boil. My unit did not come close.
Another (totally separate) problem was also a show stopper. After several hours in the clay pot there was a layer of scum on the surface of the water. So that means every time you cook food in the cooker you will be getting a dose of the clay. Now this is made in china and I believe I read that the clay is actually mined in China. Without expensive testing I don't know if that scum layer contains anything toxic, but I am certainly not going to take the chance.
I called Amazon and they were wonderful. It's a bit of an inconvenience to have spent this much time on the purchase, the test and in shipping it back, but Amazon has made it as painless as possible.
Love It - How to Fix E1 Error and E2 Error
Kalpabas✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 1, 2016
I'm using this 6-cup rice cooker daily for few years now, and I love it!

I had the 8 Cup - Multicooker as well and it ended up with E1 error. Then I went with the 6 cup rice cooker since I don't cook large amount. Today I got the same E1 error with my 3 years old rice cooker. Since I have nothing to lose, I tried to open the rice cooker to see what's going on. And I'm in luck! I was able to fix the E1 error. And here we go.

Reason for E1 Error:
-----------------------------
There are few sensors in this cooker. One at the lid, and another one goes under the cooker. If any one of the wires of these sensors got braked you will get the E1 Error.

One wire for lid sensors is broken and it is giving the problem for me and this could be the reason for 98% of the E1 Error. The tiny wires goes to the lid sensors are getting bend all the time you open and close the lid. So eventually you will end up breaking one of these wires for sure.

Reason for E2 Error:
-----------------------------
While testing, I cut both the wires of once censor, which started to give me E2 error. So if you get E2 error, that should be both wires got broken in one of the sensors.

Fix E1/E2 Errors:
---------------------
==== Please check my pictures before you attempt to fix. ===

1. Remove the small side cover. It is attached to the cooker with one scre.
2. Remove the upper lid cover.
The most hard part in the fixing process is opening the lid. There are two screws hidden under the lid handle. You have to remove the lid handle cover and then remove the two screws. Then you can remove the whole upper case of the lid.
3. Fix the broken wires.
Once you remove the upper case, you can clearly see how the wires are. If they are broken, reconnect and tape it.

You are good to go!
Just received this item and looks like they have some QC problems and releasing their product ...

Just received this item and looks like they have some QC problems and releasing their product unchecked. I don't think any lid should be warp like that (pic provided) plus when I am closing the lid of the cooker, I need to apply a lot of force to close it tight. It could be because the lid and pot of the cooker are bad, the electric cooker seem fine. I would not suggest buying this product until they resolve their QC problems. As for myself, I don't plan on buying a replacement pot and lid as I might get another warp pot or lid. I bought their 8 cup multicooker two years ago and it was great, but this 6 cup I just got is a bad product.

Hoping that it would still be okay to use with a warp lid, I proceed to follow the instruction to season the clay pot by filling with 75% full of water and 1 cup of white rice and pushed the 'Soup' button for the 2 hours cooking. To my disgust, it was boiling out in 30 mins and I got a big mess to clean up now.
