Nice unit. Will hold one small to medium size gun and a small extra mag. Lock is easy when you get the hang of it.
Johnny BeansMay 10, 2018
Ok for its intended purpose. As others said, the lock mechanism on the inside is relatively large and takes up significant interior space.
Fit either a 638 j frame or a glock 43 and extra mag"”-but not both guns at the same time. Instructions for setting the combo are accurate, but could be clearer. Watching the YouTube clarified it for me.
The holes in the unit are placed a little funny but drilling another hole should be easy enough. Unit will work fine if you can live with the size. I can and the price is attractive. Will deter children and smash and grab thieves. I plan on unlocking it at bedtime and locking it in the am.
Great Build Easy to Use
MandM G.May 5, 2018
Just wanted to take a minute to leave a review on the V-Line gun storage security. I received the box and was excited to try it out. We bought two of them. Right off the bat you can see the build quality was excellent. The knob is responsive and the buttons have good tension. You know everything works right out of the box. The inside of the safe has padding, so your gun is not going to just be rattling around.

The real test is the ease of use. We purchased the safes with this type of locking mechanism to avoid the need to change batteries or have a spare key lying around waiting to get lost. I must say that I was impressed. The instructions inside are very clear and setting a new code is simple. The default code even demonstrates how many combination possibilities there are, For a safe that is so simple to use, it has a good number of features that will secure your firearm.

My only caution for anyone looking to purchase this for a full size gun with any extended magazine is to go one size larger than the compact version. Everything will fit, but just a little tight. I love the compact size, so I made it work. This compact box is a pleasant surprise. It fits perfectly in all my drawers, so it gives me many options if I choose to mount this safe.

This is definitely a great price for the product. Less expensive safes just don't have the conveniences that the V-Line Compact Security box does. I am realy happy with the built quality and the ease of use.
Nice concept, but needs improvements...

I bought this to use as a vehicle pistol safe in trunk or under seat, as well as a secure pistol transport container for airline checked-baggage. Very nice product and high quality build. It's about the right level of security ruggedness for this application, yet light enough to check with baggage and not weigh you down too much. My Sig Sauer P229 RX "just" barely fits, though it's a placement challenge to also fir a separate magazine, without having it interfere with the inner lock mechanism (see #1, below) or making metal-metal contact with the pistol. Overall though, a nice concept - worthy of 5-stars, if not for the following three (3) issues screaming for improvement:

1) The inside of the locking mechanism protrudes into the storage compartment, consuming a significant amount of volume - and potentially marring your goods, if you're not super careful with positioning your item(s) inside. I would not want a larger box for this application, so the lock's internal protrusion is a necessary evil to keep it compact, but V-Line should design and include a rubber/plastic cap of some sort to cover the lock assembly on the inside. I phoned V-Line and provided this feedback; they were very supportive and empathetic, and indicated that their lock supplier used to provide this feature, but unfortunately, stopped manufacturing it. I respectfully encourage V-Line to find an alternative 3rd-party supplier for an inside lock cover to protect the contents. Given the price-point of this safe, I cannot imagine cost would be an issue to include this necessary feature.

2) When in my vehicle, I plan to lock it with a padlock/bike cable to a secure tie-down point in the trunk or under the seat. The punched-out locking holes in the bottom corner should include rubber/plastic grommets or hole inserts. Even under gentle use, any padlock will soon scratch/scrape that area, which will expose unfinished metal and render it susceptible to corrosion/rust.

3) The placement of the padlock holes on the bottom-right-rear corner results in the box not laying flat with a padlock or cable installed. The thickness of any padlock/shackle/cable causes that corner of the box to be raised. Having noted this, I'm not sure where V-Line would be able to locate the external locking holes anywhere else on the box. It's not a huge deal for me, but it may bother some folks.
Cheaply made locking mechanism not worth the high cost of the box
BruceMay 21, 2016
Years ago I purchased 2 V-Line gun storage boxes which I still have and use and they are very high quality. So I purchased this one for my 90 year old Dad for his 5-shot .38. While the box itself is good quality the locking mechanism is not. First of all, it extends too deep into the box so the gun must be placed in a certain position in order to close the box. Now an update May 2016: The cheaply made locking mechanism malfunctioned with the gun locked in the box and we could not open the box whatsoever. I ended up taking a crow bar to the box destroying the box in the process but I was able to get the gun out. Would not recommend.
Very compact with one minor issue

Ultra compact. Will barely fit a Glock 19 and a spare mag. Only one configuration works. Glock 43 is slim enough to slide around in any position.

Bought for a 43. The simplex lock device packaging is what causes location issues with the 19. See photo for G19 referenced position.

No batteries, very compact, made in the USA, price is on point. Very pleased.
