Cheap, Defective, and Poorly Designed

I just purchased this and tried to assemble it. I was excited because of its small footprint, but unfortunately, it's very cheaply made. I had it nearly assembled, but when I went to place the final piece of particle board on the top of the tower, the pre-drilled holes were not large enough for the inserts provided. This was extremely frustrating since it was nearly ready for my movies to be placed on the shelves. Without the top on the tower, the flimsy walls don't stay in place and the integrity of the structure is compromised. This is probably the worst piece of furniture I've bought for the money, even if the holes would have been drilled larger. This seemed exactly what I was looking for, but there is no value for your money. Even the turntable is plastic! It's already a heavy tower, but once you add ~800 movies or CDs, it becomes extremely heavy so the plastic turntable squeaks when you spin it. I cannot see this tower holding up long-term. I also think the design is poorly thought through. Once you screw the sides together, there is a large hollow interior--essentially wasted space. Do not buy it.
The quality is good and item looks nice

This holds 489 DVD's by laying one shelf group on their side due to height restriction. The quality is good and item looks nice. Very easy to assemble. Unfortunately, my DVD collection totals 667 and this item was not large enough. It would be helpful if the description would have included the number of items it would accommodate (i.e. CD/DVD/blue ray, etc.). My picture below also includes book ends on top with an additional 74 DVD's.
Works for us!

I really like this piece! My husband put it together relatively easily, and it looks better then expected for being assembled furniture. Suitable size for the moderate dvd collector( buy movies you like frequently, but not necessarily an actual collector). 2 together would probably still look ok, if you don't mind a wall of DVDs/ blu rays. Works great for our families needs.

Yes, I know you think this spinner CD rack is a good idea. I did, too. Please learn from my mistakes. Don't buy this product. Amazon should withdraw it from the catalog.

Forget the high favorable reviews for this product. The three percent or so who noted the flawed base are entirely correct. It will break. The product comes with a plastic lazy susan that is about as thick as the plastic you get in plastic model kits. The unit puts all of its weight on this plastic part at the base in order to turn. Amazingly, it will hold up when the unit is first assembled, but it will crack after you add the weight of the CDs. You will end up with a leaning Tower of Pisa.

Yes, this unit is made out of heavy particle board. Given that, you'd think that its weakest link, the base, would be the strongest part. But it's not. And consider this: how will you add CDs to this unit? If you do what I did, which is to add CDs to one side in alphabetical order, and then start on the next adjacent side, well, that won't work. The weight of the CDs will cause the unit to lean to one side and it'll crack the base. You'd have to add the CDs on opposite sides to balance them. Of course, you shouldn't have to think of doing that at all.

You are probably thinking like I did that you could maybe add the metal lazy susan that gets advertised with this product after first trying the plastic one. No, you cannot do that. The base is held tight with a plastic screw. Once tightened, you can't thread out the screw in the center of the base. You're just stuck with the leaning Tower of Pisa once again.

Amazon authorized a return but I still lost $50, and plenty of time, assembling and disassembling this product. That's because I stupidly threw away the box after first assembling it. That's a big mistake because you can't find a box the same size. I had to pay $50 to have it professionally packed.

Some people have noted that this product can't be set flush against a wall. You are thinking that's just an aesthetic thing you can get over. Maybe, but it really does stick out. And you can't really move it around.

Hey, I got this thing because I have about 500 CDs and my old dowel rack was coming apart from the weight. I thought this unit was my solution. Instead it was just a time waster and an incredible hassle to return, not to mention the expense. Just avoid this like the plague. As I say, Amazon should withdraw it as a flawed product.
Would have been nice to know a few things first.

While I do like these shelves, I REALLY would have liked to know that the individual shelves do not sit flush against the back panel. There is about a 1 inch gap between the shelf and the back panel. This is not a big deal if you're using it only for DVDs, but for my uses this poses an issue. Also, if it's designed to be mounted on the wall, the shelves should also be black on the underside. Instead, they are black on the top and front, but the underside is natural wood colored. It looks awful so I had to paint all the undersides of the shelves.

IF YOU BUY MORE THAN ONE: Another reviewer mentioned this but I didn't see it until it was too late, but if you buy multiple of these with the intention of placing them side by side, they do not sit exactly flush next to either other. At the bottom there is about a 1/8" lip on each side, but the top does not have that lip. So if you plan to hang these side by side on the wall, make sure you take your measurements from the BOTTOM and not the top.

The packaging was very good. I ordered 3 units and not a single piece was missing or damaged. My husband did opt to use his own wall screws instead of the ones provided. Otherwise we found the instructions fairly simple to follow. He's usually pretty picky about how sturdy things are but he feels comfortable with the wall supports included. I might still add some decorative brackets to the bottom just for extra security.
