What an awesome steamer! Attention is given to the smallest of ...

What an awesome steamer! Attention is given to the smallest of details. The two baskets fit inside each other for compact storage. The lid flips over and fits on the bottom of the basket for transport or serving. The water can easily be poured in the side lip without lifting the basket up, and the level of water in the reservoir is visible through the window. The bottoms of the baskets are removable for large items (like corn on the cob) and easy cleaning. The timer dings when the steamer turns off. I like the tiered steamer for a veggie/rice combo or meat on top dripping into rice, as many steamers do not include rice baskets. Even packed well with all pieces securely protected. Very impressive Black & Decker!
I was perfectly happy cooking my vegetables in the microwave

I didn't think I needed a vegetable steamer. I was perfectly happy cooking my vegetables in the microwave. Sure, I had to guess on the time. Sure, I had to stop every few minutes and stir them to even out the cooking. Sure, I had a puddle of water in the bottom of the bowl and some of them were overcooked. Then a friend of a friend mentioned that she uses a vegetable steamer and uses it all the time. So I tried it. I found this nice B & D model for a reasonable price. And I used it and found such a difference. First of all, I can steam a huge bag of cut vegetables all at once. And everything cooks evenly...even in the top row. I just turn on the timer and forget it until the bell rings. And they are done perfectly every time. No more hovering around, adding a few more minutes cause they haven't cooked evenly. Perfect every time. I'm hooked.
Great steamer. I've cooked veggies

Great steamer. I've cooked veggies, boneless, skinless pork chops, boneless, skinless chicken, eggs and rice in it so far. Everything was cooked to perfection.

I did notice that if I cook meat and veggies at the same time, the veggies were over cooked.. My recommendation is to wait until the meat is half way cooked and then put the veggies in the top tray.

The only real complaint I have, is fattier meats, like the porkchops I cooked in it, leave behind the fatty mushy goop, and it gets stuck the tiny little holes of the tray. I had to use a toothpick to push the fat out. Gross. I sat down in front the tv for about 15-20 minutes getting it all out.
Let hope this lasts the 15 years the other one did.

Fantastic! We had two others that lasted 15 years before the plastic bowls finally cracked and leaked, had to find a replacement. This one was perfect. With the removable center corn on the Cobb is a breeze. With the shape and design of the bowls fitting inside each other, storage is half the space. The best part, they fit in the RV! Finally steamed veggies while out on the road, suure makes those camp fire steaks sooooo much better. Great job Black and Decker.
it has been great. A new feature is the water level indicator ...

This is a replacement to an older Black & Decker model in which the baskets wore out after 8 years. We used the old model regularly (1-2 times per week) and had high hopes for the "new and improved version." So far, after about 2 months of use, it has been great. A new feature is the water level indicator which is very useful. The ability to add water during the steaming process is also a plus. We have steamed numerous vegetables and cooked rice several times, all of which turned out perfectly. One other new feature we recently tried is the ability to take the floor out of the upper basket to create one large steamer basket. We did this to steam fresh corn on the cob and it worked out fantastically. I would guess you can hold approximately 10 average ears standing on end at one time. It only took 15 minutes in the steamer to have perfect corn on the cob and that is much quicker than waiting on a giant pot of water to boil and then dealing splashing boiling water. This is how we are going to cook corn on the cob from now on. We are very happy with this purchase.
