A safe way to heat non-induction items
Richard S✓ Verified PurchaseFebruary 18, 2024
So happy we found this! We have two of the smaller Italian coffee percolators, which are made of aluminum. With an induction top range, they are incompatible! At least they were until we found this hot plate. This plate heats up from induction and the heat transfers to the coffee maker. Simple, easy, safe (don't touch the hot plate when its hot!) And easy to clean if the coffee spills. We've been using thus for over a year, almost daily, and there has been no damage to the glass induction top and the plate and handle are in perfect condition (although slightly stained from minor coffee spills and from heat). The handle stays cool and the small metal raisers under the plate avoid trapping liquid under it. This is a must have if you own an induction top and need to heat nonferrous cooking vessels.
Great intermediate solution until I purchase more Ferrite items

I just purchased an induction cooktop range. This interface disk is a decent stopgap, allowing me to use my former aluminum pots and pans until I replace them with induction ready ones. However, it is definitely not as fast as direct induction. I tried an experiment - I used a ferrite frying pan to test boiling asparagus. With direct induction, medium to high settings created a roiling boil. When I repeated the test using the same frying pan placed on the disk, it took much longer (slightly longer than when using my former electric stove) but eventually it DID boil softly at max settings. So my suggestion is: use it for your favorite teapot or as a stopgap until you purchase all your induction equipment.
Works Better Than Expected!!!

I bought this because it has good/mixed reviews on the 'net'. I also bought the Ilsa 2 piece induction interface heat diffuser disk (or whatever you care to call these things) a week before buying this Max Burton. If you care to read my review of the Ilsa set, I stated I had ordered the Max Burton and would update my Ilsa review as well as reviewing the Max Burton. When I bought the Ilsa, there was only 1 review that gave a 1 star rating. Well, I was very pleased with the Ilsa and gave it 5 stars because it did perform better than I had expected. Perhaps I had researched these 'disks' and knew what to expect as far as performance, and perhaps I may be a better cook and know how to use and what to expect from cookware than the other reviewer. I don't know, and I certainly don't mean to cast dispersions on the other reviewer of the Ilsa disk set. I just know that I am pleased with the Ilsa set, as I am with this Max Burton disk.
OK, on to my review of the Max Burton disk! I almost bought it as my first induction interface disk but wasn't sure as to its actual specifications. One website said it was 1/2 inch thick and another said it was 1/4 inch thick. When it arrived a couple days ago I discovered it is a hair under 1/4 inch and much to my surprise, it has 4 little 'feet' about 1/32 inch around the circumference that lift the bottom surface off the surface of the induction cooktop. While that may not be any issue as far as the magnetic conductivity of the disk and cooktop, my Ilsa set is as flat as a pancake and makes 100% contact with the cooktop surface.
Another issue I had buying the Max Burton versus the Ilsa set was the permanently attached handle on the Max Burton, I thought it might not work with my larger based non-induction stainless steel cookware. Well, I was wrong about that! The handle is low enough and offset enough that it works very well with my aluminum Turbo Cooker (8 inch base) and my 10 inch deep covered sauté non-induction stainless steel pan (9 inch base). I have a 12 inch Berghoff stainless steel induction-ready skillet, and as big as it is with a 9 1/4 inch base, the Max Burton fits like a glove and would work great for a pan that size that is not 'induction ready'.
Even though the Max Burton disk is 8 inches, I put my 1.5qt non-induction stainless steel sauce pan with a 5 inch base on it on my NuWave 2 cooktop with some leftover spinach on the Max/Sear setting, and it was boiling away in just a couple minutes. I took the pan and disk off the NuWave and set it on the burner of my electric stove (burner was off) and the little pan continued to boil for several minutes. That alone will attest to the heat and heat retention capability of the Max Burton disk and its versatility of being used as a 'flame tamer' or 'simmer ring' on a gas or electric stove. My Ilsa disks being thinner will not retain heat that long, but that too is a good thing. Nonetheless, they will also work well as 'flame tamers' and 'simmer rings'.
All in all, it seems that this review of the Max Burton 6010 8-inch interface disk is also a comparison of the Ilsa 2 set interface disks, so now I must tell you what I think of them and give you guidance as to which one you may choose to purchase.
I like both of them, I am very pleased with the performance of the Ilsa and having 2 different sized disks to use depending on my needs, although the larger disk works fine for all applications. I am also very pleased with the Max Burton, it performed better than I had expected (as did the Ilsa set). I am very pleased with both and I will use them a lot since I have both the NuWave 2 and NuWave PIC PRO induction cooktops and having the Ilsa and Max Burton will allow me to use the non-induction cookware I can't part with!
Speaking of induction cookware, I just bought a set of T-Fal Ultimate 12 piece copper clad bottom stainless steel cookware from Amazon, and it is GREAT!!! Other than not having a pressure cooker, it is the most complete set of cookware any cook could ever want or need!!!
FYI, I bought the Ilsa and Max Burton induction interface disks and the T-Fal cookware set from Amazon. I also bought some Lodge cast iron cookware from Amazon to use on my NuWave cooktops.
Yes, there are a few choices as far as induction cooktops, some websites rate the Max Burton 6000 and 6200 as the best, and others say the Sunpentown is best. Well, I did a lot of research and decided on the NuWave since it has the 10 degree (NuWave 2 1300 watts) or 5 degree (NuWave PIC PRO 1800 watts) and found the other cooktops can only do a temperature change of 20-40 degrees. I'd have to say based on my own use and the 'facts', the NuWave 'rules' in the induction cooktop market!
Another testimony is that my electric bill arrived a couple days ago and was way more than expected. I went out and read my meter and discovered that instead of 93653 the meter reader had recorded 93956 making my bill 33% more that it should have been. I called Ohio Edison and while talking with the customer service representative, we got off on the subject of NuWave induction cooktops. She said she had 3 and used them all the time and it dropped her electric bill by $10.00 a month!!!
There you go, folks, go induction!!! Even if your cookware isn't induction compatible like my old set of nice stainless steel, you can still save a few bucks with an induction interface disk like the Max Burton or Ilsa set. All you need to know is how to cook, how to use your cookware and the heating source you're putting it on. I have used my non-induction cookware on my NuWaves with the interface disks and have gauged the electricity used with a Kill-A-Watt- meter to check electric usage and even though my non-induction cookware with the induction interface disk requires more electricity than the super T-Fal Ultimate stainless steel cookware set, it does perform very well, and uses less electricity.
Yes, I have rambled on for a bit, did you enjoy reading it???!!! In closing, I am very satisfied with the Max Burton 6010 Induction Interface Disk. It works over and above my expectations and I would recommend it to a friend or a total stranger! It works, just be sure you know what it will do for you and realize that using it with your non-induction ready cookware may take longer than you expect it to get your pan hot or get the contents to a boil.
I love it as I do the Ilsa 2 disk set. It is up to you which one you'll buy, it all depends on the size you need. If all you need is an 8 inch disk, get the Max Burton. It works great and I'm happy with mine. If you want the versatility of the Ilsa set with 2 different sized disks, get the Ilsa. It works great and I'm happy with my set.
OK, I know that you are still confused and don't know which set to buy. The best advice I can give is to do what I did, buy both and that will put an end to all the "what if's"!!! Be it known by all, this is my 'credo': "Buy the best and you won't be depressed"!!! That is the exact reason I bought both the Ilsa 2 disk set and the Max Burton disk. I love them both and will use both a lot. If your non-inductive pans have a bottom base of 6-10 inches get the Max Burton. If you have smaller based pans, get the Ilsa set. Nonetheless, even if you get the 8 inch Max Burton, it does really work well with a small based pan such as the 5 inch one I used earlier tonight.
I hope this review will help you decide which induction interface disk or disk set to buy. All I can tell you is I am happy I bought both of them and I will work them like rented mules!!!!!!!!

UPDATE MARCH 27,2014

Last night I used the 8.2" Ilsa disk with my (aluminum) Turbo Cooker to steam-heat up some leftovers. It worked very well. Tonight I used the Max Burton disk for the same purpose (and more of the same leftovers as last night) and had equally great results. I was very impressed that using either disk I was able to lower or raise the temperature on my NuWave 2 Induction Cooktop and had the same results I have had using my T-Fal (12 piece T-Fal Ultimate set from Amazon) induction-ready cookware. I could go from a boil to no boil and no boil to boil as easily and quickly as I can with the induction-ready cookware. I was very impressed, for sure!!!
As I have stated before, I am very pleased with both the Max Burton and the Ilsa 2 disk set and I do use both. Depending on your needs and the non-induction cookware you plan to use on an induction cooktop will determine which you will buy. Or, if you're like me, you'll buy both and have the versatility I do when it comes to using your induction cooktop with non-induction cookware. I can't wait to use the Lodge Cast Iron skillets and Dutch Ovens I've gotten from Amazon recently, I have used a Lodge cast iron griddle and it worked great on my NuWave 2. I fried some bacon and eggs and was in Hog Heaven!!! I think this weekend I will make a big pot of spaghetti sauce and meatballs and even though I have the 5qt. Dutch Oven from the 12 piece set of T-Fal Ultimate Stainless Steel Induction Ready Copper Bottom cookware from Amazon, I think I'll use the 3qt. Lodge Combo Cooker Dutch Oven set from Amazon. It will be nice to fry the meatballs in the skillet lid from the Lodge Combo Cooker and then put them in the sauce in the 3qt. pan of the set! I love to cook, I love being able to use a variety of cookware, and Amazon has truly done their best to provide a vast array of available products!!! By the way, Amazon also offers a 10.25 glass lid that fits the 5qt Lodge and the 3qt Lodge Combo Cooker Dutch Ovens. I got one and it is nice to be able to see what's cooking and not have to lift the cast iron lid to see!!! Also, the 10.25" glass lid fits my 10" All-Clad tri-ply wok, a really great bonus!!!
It works now

My husband surprised me with a new induction cooktop and it turned out to be a real surprise in not so good way because half of my pots did not work in induction cooktop!
From many reviews, a lot of people said "Just buy new pots and pans" but combining all my old post will cost more than cooktop itself that even though they are old pots so I could not do that. I was really frustrated and told my husband that I wanted him to send the cooktop back!
He found this disk and asked me to try before we either sell the cooktop or return it. Since he was trying to make me happy with a new cook top, I decided to try.(I even bought a used one from amazon marketplace because I just wanted to TRY). What I was scared of was someone mentioned that it almost ruined her expensive cooktop.
So I was standing right by it and if I sensed something, I was going to throw it right away.
First, I tried with a small (1.5qt) sauce pan. It was not that great quality (Paula Deen brand) and it always took a long time to boil water. So with disk, it took a long time too.
Second, I tried with my Fissler pressure cooker which was made out of superior quality stainless. (This was one of the pots I could not give up. ) Surprisingly, it worked super fast! The disk did get hot but did not turn to black. I turned the heat all the way high and it worked great.
Now I am boiling soup in a not induction friendly pot and it is working fine. It heats up just like regular glass cook top.

So Now I feel better since I can keep all my favorite pots. I might buy a bigger one for my huge stock pot. Hope this will last long.

Update: after 2 years of use, it still works good. It did turn dark though.
