Well, I imagined I was going to receive an average size box heavy with the mortar and pestle inside..
Instead, received a box about the size of an average men's wallet with the pestle the width and length of my pinky and mortar about the size of my palm.. This was supposed to be a gift for someone else..hope the thought counts.

Carefully look at the measurements because indeed it is small, which is what we wanted as we use it to grind medicine in it. We wanted something small and pretty and strong, and that is exactly what it is. I think one would be unlikely to grind herbs or food items in it as it is so small; this is a benefit to us since we don't want anyone making the mistake of grinding food in something that has had medicine in it, but a negative for someone looking for a grinder for herbs, for instance.

I just purchased one of these agate mortar and pestles. It is of a really good quality and a great bargain.
