Great layout tool.

I bought this detector to use with a PLS5 that I had purchased previously. After a couple of weeks of using it I can say it works well and helps get the job done faster. We are concrete contractors and we use this tool for horizontal layouts. This tool helps when sunlight makes it hard to see the red dot. We did purchase some laser enhancement glasses (more expensive than detector) to aid in finding the red dot from the PLS5 but they are no match for the detector. This tool really helps with speed and accuracy. I can say that if you point the laser in the general direction of your point, the detector will let you know you are close; It will let you know with a continuous beep and visually on the screen when you are at your point. I did attempt to use it with my PLS180 but the laser beam is not strong enough to activate the detector. Either way, this tool is a great addition to the tool box.

We have two PLS5 lasers that are typically used for framing lay-outs, lining up windows, etc. When work is done outside in bright sunlight, it can be very hard to find the laser 'dot', even with special red-tinted glasses that are made for that purpose. Using this detector makes that task much easier, and I wish I had bought it sooner. This review is written in 2012 while I purchased this in 2009. I have the benefit of experience, and can tell you that this device has held up well on our job sites.
