Great SNES Clone USB controller
SnakeVenom✓ Verified Purchase•July 14, 2023
The SNES controller is one of my favorites since I grew up playing SNES games and it fits perfectly in my hands. My 2 original controllers that I got in the early 1990's are still in great shape for being over 20 years old. I wanted to be able to play some of the SNES emulators but didn't have a SNES to usb adapter and was not sure I wanted to put more wear and tear on my original controllers, so after looking on youtube and google for people reviewing usb clone controllers I found this controller being talked about with everyone saying positive things about it. So, I decided to come here to amazon to see how much it was and what people on here are saying about it. The price was pretty reasonable and almost everyone has been saying that it is a great controller so I ordered one.
I received it a few days ago and the box it came in was very nice but was covered in Chinese. However there was some English but either way it isn't needed to read it and I had no problems getting my 4 year old laptop that's running Windows 10 to recognize the controller. To test it I played a few games that require face button presses like F-Zero, Star Fox and Super Street Fighter 2. So far it has held up really well but I have not had a chance to extensively test it. The D-Pad, start and select, and the face buttons all feel very nice. The D-Pad is raised a bit higher than the one on the original SNES Controller like everyone else is saying, but I could pull off Hadoukens, Tornado Whirlwind Kicks in SSF2, Cut corners in Mute City and Barrel roll while blasting Andross in the face with no problems. The Start and Select are a very nice somewhat soft rubber that is very similar to the original SNES's buttons. The X,Y,A,B buttons are also very solid and feel very good in quality with each button press. And the Turbo button definitely came in handy a few times. Using this controller almost made it feel like I was playing with my original SNES Controller.
Almost that is, so While I rate this as a 5-Star right now, there is one negative to this controller (Hey nothing is perfect). It's the shoulder buttons do not feel as good of quality as the ones on the original SNES controller. Heck, they don't feel as good in quality as the face buttons on the same controller. Don't get me wrong, the shoulder buttons work great as I pointed out about barrel rolling in star fox. It's just they make this hollow snapping sound when pressed and feel flat compared to the shoulder buttons on the original SNES controller. I'll update my rating if my opinion changes.
So if you are looking for a pretty good clone of a SNES controller for your PC than I would definitely recommend this one. It isn't perfect but I have used a lot of 3rd party SNES controllers in my day and this one definitely beats all of them.

Just like the Buffalo Famicom USB Gamepad, this nearly gets it right.

**A Nearly Flawless Controller**
This is the real deal, folks, this is Buffalo's SNES themed USB controller! It's the only USB Super Nintendo controller that's worth your money.
Every button feels great and has the right amount of click to it. Select/Start are made of rubber if you like that. There's a turbo function if you really want to use it. Check out my review of the Buffalo Famicom USB controller to read my explanation of how that works; these controllers are functionally identical in that regard.
The D-Pad isn't amazing. Diagonals aren't very easy to pull off and the D-Pad itself feels kind of stiff, but still leagues ahead of what controllers like the G-Tron SNES controller feel like.
My unit had a defect on the X button (the blue one) wherein a scratch that looks like a very bright blue is visible on the controller. Very annoying, but that doesn't impact function.
Overall, it's a pretty good controller. Solid 4/5.

I'll cut to the skinny. This controller is worth your money, but I did have very minor problems.
First of all, the box for this was damaged upon delivery; something that has never happened to me with Amazon before. I planned on displaying the box in my gaming room, but because I can't return an empty box, I'll either need to put the box in a more dimly-lit space or flat-out not display it.
My second nitpick is that my blue "X" button had a noticeable scratch at the top of the button's face. This doesn't affect gameplay, though, so I suppose that everything could be worse.
My final nitpick is the D-Pad. The plastic on the D-Pad feels a little too thick, which it apparently is in comparison to an original Super Famicom controller, but it handles diagonals without a hitch and I will likely get used to it. I just prefer the D-Pad used on Buffalo's Famicom USB controller, but I will likely register the different D-Pads as different systems, as I would with original controllers.

TL;DR: My product had minor problems that yours likely won't have, so buy this controller

I've got an original SNES usb controller that I bought from Infinite Nes Lives for 50 bucks. The quality of that controller is flawless but the price tag was tough to swallow.
I wanted a 2nd SNES pad for 2 player action but just couldn't bring myself to pay another 50 dollars so I did some research and discovered the buffalo brand has quite a following from new and old gamers alike.
For the price, I couldn't say no and decided to get one.
I'm happy to report that it performs flawlessly and feels great. Side by side comparisons vs the original Japan controller (as most likely noted by numerous reviewers here) are that the buffalo controller is slightly lighter, slightly thinner and vs the original famicom pad, the dpad is slightly elevated on the buffalo controller.
The differences are marginal and the only REAL noticable difference to my seasoned retro gaming hands is the lighter weight of the buffalo controller. I have ordered a roll of lead tape and will weigh out a strip of that and apply it onto the inside wall of the back half of the controller shell to match the weight of the original controller. Other than that minor nit-picking there is very little to complain about.
If I had to change anything, it'd be to have the turbo buttons moved further up towards the top of the game pad. It's easy to accidentally press them instead of start/select. I don't actually use them so I may end up just removing the buttons all together.
I've attached numerous photos comparing the weight of the 2 game pads and thickness at various parts of the controller.
Bottom line is that if you want a near 100% authentic replica of the original super famicom game pad, look no further. Yes there are minor differences but the price gap between a real one and this one is FAR beyond the point of diminishing returns in my opinion unless you're a collector, which in that case, you most likely already have one or more of the original game pads anyways.

No it doesn't feel like a genuine Nintendo branded SNES controller but thats alright!
It works!
It works!!
It works! it works!! it works!!!
LOL!!!!!
Which can't be said for most of these SNES retro controller knock offs.
The Tomee version for example which I just reviewed before making this review feels almost exactly like an authentic Nintendo made SNES controller (save for it's lightness). The buttons, the D pad texture, the concave shape of two buttons, the L and R buttons, etc ALL except maybe the select and start button felt exactly like a genuine Nintendo SNES controller but all that didn't count for anything as upon testing the Tomee branded controller out the A button requires superhuman pushing force to register your moves and the D pad when pressing right was also defective but to a lesser extent ie didn't have to push as hard to get it to work but still have to apply more force than should be necessary.
So moving on before I digress further...
What I can tell you about this the superior Buffalo model SNES controller is that it's control is very fluid and sound though upon initial feeling out of the controller once I got it out of it's box and suspected the D pad of being too loose it ended up working fine in game (though its D pad was not as great for throwing Ryu's dragon punch for me as the Tomee model).
Anyway if you love Super Mario World this controller will be a god send for you (assuming you don't have an authentic Nintendo made SNES controller and a usb adapter to play it on PC or laptop with).
Like practically all retro usb controllers the Buffalo Classic is light and for that reason feels kinda cheap but again I can't stress enough that feeling or rather idea of cheapness quickly fades once you start gaming with the thing.
Seriously unless you want to invest in usb adapters for actual genuine SNES Nintendo controllers this is the next best thing.
The kind of control a game like Super Mario World needs makes it the measuring stick of controller quality testing in my mind and this controller passed that test with flying colors.
Even though it's D pad doesn't suit me personally as well for Street Fighter II it may be just fine for you (we all have different skill levels after all with the ability to get certain controller tech working for us) or perhaps those of you out there avoid these types of controllers for arcade fighting games entirely (in favor of arcade sticks) so my point is thus moot regardless.
It worked for the greatest beat em up game of all time Super Double Dragon and I also tore through a level of Contra III: The Alien Wars like a boss using this bad boy so I simply can't express to you all enough the level of excellence this company put into it's design of this controller.
Its truly one of those "shut up and take my money!" kind of products, well at least if you're into retro gaming which I obviously am.
