The remote entry works great, but car wiring may be a nightmare to figure out.

First of all, the Avital 2101L when connected to the vehicle works GREAT. We just bought a 2007 Malibu that did not have factory keyless entry. So, I ordered this to install. The installation directions are terrible. There is no wiring diagram for your vehicle, so I searched the web for wiring diagrams. I found several wiring diagrams, but not all of them were the same or accurate. A good source is the12volt website. It took me 2 weekends and ordering a resistor to make it work, but it now does and I could not be happier. This project is not for the faint of heart.
Let a pro install it

Thought I could install it myself had to go to a pro modern car wiring is too complicated would be nice if they made a plug and play but I understand it's a universal kit and that wouldn't be possible it works great on my Honda Fit
Perfect for my Ford Ranger!! Love the progressive door unlock feature!

This is awesome!

I have a Ford Ranger which doesn't have power windows/locks...etc. Many years I have been unlocking the truck with the key and it can be a total PITA if it's raining or one has their hands full. I can deal with manual windows, but keyless entry is almost a must. I found two door actuators in my "stuff" pile and decided I had enough and wanted to tackle putting in a keyless entry. There are MANY sites/forums that help you with wiring. So please don't let the bunch of wires scare you. For the cost of this unit it was a no brainer to do in my opinion. This is not hard to install.. It will probably take you longer to take apart your vehicle and mount the acutators, run the wires, solder everything and then test...etc..

I wanted to use the progressive unlock feature. This means, I push the unlock button once, and it will unlock my driver's side door. Push the button again within 15 seconds and it will unlock my passenger side door. Since I have a truck and I drive it 99% of the time, I didn't want the passenger side to unlock everytime.

This is how to wire it up accordingly: NOTE. You will need another relay to operate the second door actuator (passenger side)

[B+ is the POSITIVE 12v source from the battery]

H1/9 violet UNLOCK 87 = B+ Hot at all times (fused)
H1/7 violet/blk LOCK 87 = B+ Hot at all times (fused)
Hq1/17 brown/blk UNLOCK 87a = GROUND
H1/6 wht/blk LOCK 87a = GROUND
H1/8 blue/blk UNLOCK 30 = DRIVER actuator UNLOCK wire
H1/5 grn/blk LOCK 30 = BOTH actuators LOCK wire(s)

(obviously you will need the 12v constant,ignition, and ground, not depicted in the above diagram, as it's self explanatory via the manual)

Now you need a relay for the PASSENGER UNLOCK (2nd unlock)

30 = PASSENGER actuator UNLOCK wire
87a = GROUND
87 and 86 = B+ Hot at all times (fused)
85 = 2101 H1/2 blue 2nd unlock wire.

Hope the above helps as I searched a LOT for the progressive unlock feature and not a lot was coming up.

I also ordered a small buzzer so now when I press unlock/lock it sounds of a chirp instead of the horn beeping. I found the horn beeping to be very annoying especially if you are getting into your car often or it's late at night.

For the total cost of under $40 and I now have keyless entry on my truck I couldn't be happier! Mind you it might be a little more expensive depending on your door actuators and if you need to purchase, wire, relays..etc But if you are tackling this type of project you MOST likely already have the necessary items and supplies to complete the install.

In summary:
All I wanted was a way to unlock/lock my truck remotely. Avital is a quality brand! Great price. I now have progressive door locks. The unit chirps just as an OEM system would, and my parking lights flash just like OEM. The unit has many options including unlock when you shut the vehicle off (3 seconds) and lock when you turn the vehicle on (3 seconds). I'm ecstatic that I did this and even happier at the convenience of not fumbling with a key anymore.
Great product! Find instructions elsewhere, or pay an installer.

I read reviews and watched youtubes, and had the factory wiring diagrams. I still struggled, and if not for another Amazon reviewer's instructions, might still be baffled. HOWEVER, the seller states that the unit is to be installed only by a professional. They provide lots of information but don't "connect the dots." That said, it worked exactly as it should, and if you are armed with enough information, is an easy install. Doors lock and unlock, interior light comes on when I unlock, parking/tail lights blink once on lock, twice on unlock. Still have to finish horn and trunk remote but am sure they'll work.

Note: most cars won't need additional relays just for lock/unlock. You will need relays for horn, trunk, and if you want the passenger doors to work on two clicks rather than always with the driver's door.
Worth 5 stars if the install instructions weren't so bad

Good unit worth 5 stars if it weren't for the stupid inadequate installation instructions. Many bad reviews and advice here. Just wanted to install a simple key-less entry module and a pair of aftermarket door lock actuators on my 2000 Nissan frontier pickup that never had electric door locks. One of the reviews said you needed to install a separate relay module to make this work on vehicles that weren't factory equipped with with electric door locks,.(NOT SO),..so I bought one for ten bucks but found in the 2101L instructions that it would handle aftermarket actuators directly WITHOUT installing any relays. (the 2101 has it's own on board relays capable of 30 amp draw)
Problem is no diagrams as to what connections should be made to accomplish this.
My wasted time figuring this out is your gain. If all you want is to install one or more aftermarket actuators on a vehicle that never had electric door locks,..do this:
After installing your new aftermarket TWO WIRE actuators and running color coded wires from them to the area where the 2101 module will be located,..strip and twist the same colors together. In my case I installed a green wire and a yellow wire to each of the actuators on my two doors making sure to connect each color to the same color wire on each actuator. Next,.(at the module end), I twisted the greens together and the yellows together where they ended at the 2101 module to create two circuits (lock and unlock) leading to each door. Next connect the 2101 modules green/black wire and blue/black wire to either of those two wires leading out to the actuators.
Connect the purple/black wire to a constant 12 volt power source. Strip and twist together the brown/black wire and the white/black wire and connect them to chassis ground.
Follow instructions for all the other wires,..(red to constant 12volt source, black to ground, yellow to key on ignition 12 volt power, and white to park light circuit,..I didn't use any of the other wires or features) Next test the system with the fob,..if lock button unlocks doors or unlock button locks doors,...swap the green/black and blue/black wires. Oh,..if you don't want to take the chance of getting locked out after starting engine and shutting door quickly,..leave the yellow wire disconnected. This will only allow actuator operation with the remote key fob.
