Cannot even reach manufacturer to honor warranty replacement
Davida Riebman✓ Verified PurchaseApril 21, 2018
Worked well for 7 months and then time was wrong and outside temp would not work. Followed online instructions to reset with new batteries to no avail. Unit under 1 year warranty so I contacted the site that came up for the unit - Oregon Scientific Store - via email since phone message said no calls were being taken due to high call volume. Was instructed to contact a toll free number that turned out to be (I think) the manufacturer who said they did not know who the 'store' was and that I needed to send an email to customersupport@oscientific. com (the other email had oregon scientific store in the address) and that someone would be in touch the next day. It has now been several days, 3 emails and four calls later to both places to no avail. Very frustrated that I cannot even reach someone to help me get a replacement under warranty. Though I like the unit while it worked, if the manufacturer cannot honor their warranty or make it easy for the customer to even contact them then this is not the unit to buy. This is the first negative review I have ever given to anything I have bought on Amazon, and I do most of my shopping on Amazon.
Love it.

Finally broke down and bought what I knew to be the best for my needs, and I am more than pleased. Long time ago I bought the baby brother to this unit, I think it's no longer available, but it gave at least fifteen years of service. Living in a climate where the day/night temps can vary 25 or so degrees, it's more than just nice to know- as a way of avoiding running the AC at night, it's, well, a breeze to see instantly when the outdoor temp drops to below the indoor. Open the windows and fire up that house fan!

When it finally stopped working, I had no way to tell if it was the transmitter or the base. So I upgraded to this unit, hoping but not expecting it to be as good. And this time, hope won. It was everything the little one was and more. Larger, easier to read, and best of all, still has that wonderful amber backlight I have not found anywhere. But in a happy discovery, as soon as I fired up the remote, I found the old base unit came to life again, and finally the humidity sensor came online (I'd purchased the cheaper model that didn't have that feature in the sensor.)

The outside temp is displayed in large, hard to confuse numbers as the indoor is on the top half in larger type the indoor below and smaller. A bold line separates the two, and I have never had a problem discerning. The transmitter has a temp display, although the readout is a little small for viewing through a window where I had hoped to place it.

I had shopped around locally and purchased and returned literally all the basic remote wireless stations I could find, some more costly, but returned them all, as none could match the Oregon in simplicity of design yet possess all the functionality I needed.

The controls are simple and don't look like an afterthought and lend to the sleek design in an Apple sort of way. Very easy to manage, although it takes a little bit of practice to operate in dim light, they really are not all that well labeled. You can toggle between remotes, switch the time display to any of three modes, and check the high/low memory, which automatically resets daily. A manual reset would be nice, but this is meant to be as simple to operate as it gets.

Compared to another OS unit. it only accepts 3 remotes, but really, do you need five? I could only think of two other places to place them, but I am sure if I did have five I could throw two more somewhere just for fun, but since the transmitters are a little pricey, I can wait.

The atomic clock sync is convenient, accurate, and way cool, as well as a feature not found in any of the others I purchased. It takes a few minutes to sync up, and depends on the location. Resetting, should you need to, can be accomplished by an R&R of the batteries.

I do like the moon phase indicator, although I never thought I needed one, but maybe it's useful because, well, Oregon. It also plots trends, which is something in the nice-to-know category.

Far as I have tested, it's extremely accurate, easy to read, and looks great, fitting into any décor, although I do prefer the white base to the silver. And speaking of bases, all the others I tried had a flimsy plastic snap in feet, likely to fail at some point, while the Oregon it is molded into the main case and reflects the solidity of construction.

I was delighted to find a replacement for my basic setup, and if you choose this one I am sure you will too. Don't waste your time on other brands, Oregon Scientific is the finest in home weather stations and likely always will be.
Former Oregonian is very disappointed with this unit

1. Contrast in insufficient, making the display appear very dim and difficult to read compared to similar items from of other manufactures.
2. Three tiny, countersunk screws must be removed to access the battery compartment of the remote sensor. They are hard to remove even with the correct tiny screwdriver, making battery changes a time-consuming hassle.
3. The display layout is poor and unbalanced, with a blank space in the center for needless, occasional "messages." The green "ice warning" light is also a needless feature.
4. I owned an earlier model of an Oregon Scientific indoor/outdoor thermometer. It did not have the above-mentioned problems. It lasted 8 years before the remote sensor stopped functioning, prompting this latest purchase.
5. Just an FYI -- Despite the company name, this unit is manufactured in China. Quality seems fine, but its performance and design flaws make it unacceptable. It's a big disappointment, especially for a former longtime Oregonian, like me, who wants to support the companies of my home state. I'm in the process of returning this weather station.
Works with the remote sensor from an older product.

This Weather station was bought to replace an older model Oregon product that failed after 15 years. To my surprise this new unit soon picked up the signal sent from the old remote sensor unit in addition to the new one supplied.
Just what I was looking for

I have had this weather station for a few weeks now. I love it! It is very easy to read, unlike most monochromatic displays. The numbers are large and easily read from a distance, even the smaller ones. All buttons are on the front of the device, making them wicked easy to locate. The back light, the large center button, is easily found. The back light lights the entire screen for about 10 seconds. All in all, a great weather station.
