Works fine if you follow the instructions carefully.

I purchased this light set several years ago, but only recently installed it. I thought that the instructions were adequate, provided you are a reasonably competent DIY'er. I am very pleased with appearance and performance of the finished light when using a regular light switch. I was lucky that for my wall-to-wall setup the anchors screwed directly into large wooden beams. However, I can see where using the supplied wall anchors into drywall might not be strong enough when tightening the cables (toggle bolts would probably be a better choice). I can also see how installing the anchors on a ceiling could be problematic, because the side-ways force created by pulling the cable tight enough to prevent drooping would really stress the anchor points (if you can, screw the anchors into the floor/ceiling joists above your drywall).
Admittedly, the fixtures may appear to be cheap because they are very light weight. However, if you handle them carefully during installation and when moving them along the cables I don't see why this would be a problem. I suspect that people who have experienced lights being dimmer than expected or burning out quickly have not made all of the electrical connections secure enough. Remember that every uninsulated metal part outside of the dome that houses the transformer is part of the circuit for the 12 volt AC current that powers the bulbs. Note that the L.T.F. electronic transformer (model TA105WA12) is designed for use with incandescent or halogen bulbs (the company makes different models that are deigned for LEDs), although it seems like some folks have successfully replaced the halogen bulbs with MR16 LED bulb. Also, this transformer is labeled as requiring an electric low-voltage dimmer, which is different from (and much more expensive than) the typical dimmers used to control 120 V fixtures.
Great for price & LED Upgrade (DIY)

Great product for the price. I immediately replaced the 20w Halogen blubs with Mi Light MR16 RGB+CCT LED Spotlight 4W Low Power RGBW/ RGBWW LED Spots 12V DC/AC works great. The Halogens were hot the bulbs reflected through it's slivered back, casting light in all directions. The color changeable LED only reflect forward and are cool to the touch, and are Mi.Light B4 Wireless 2.4G RF 4-Zone Wall-Mounted Smart Panel Controller Powered By 2pcs AAA Batteries Only Work With Mi-Light The Newest RGB+CCT Series LED Light Bulb,Spotlight,Downlight,Flood Light on their own. Going from 100w to 20w or less (dimmed) is going green. The included wires can be stretched a bit more than 20 feet. I only needs 14', wire is easily cut to length. Getting wire taught takes little doing but not to difficult to do, I have no droop at all, looks very professional, most please with my purchase ( and upgraded bulbs )
Missing parts and difficult to install

If you are able to get this installed without ripping out of the wall, it actually looks nice. That said there are some things people should know before buying this.

1) This unit only comes with 2 turnbuckles. You need 4 to do ceiling to ceiling mounting. In the instructions it even says you can do it, but unless you have 4 turnbuckles you will have to do what i did which is a wall mount to ceiling mount. Also you can do wall to wall if your walls after less then 20ft away.

2) The unit i got was missing 1 of the 4 big washers. I had to use an old washer that was lying around the house. Unfortunately it doesn't match, but i was not whiling to try to contact this company and wait for a replacement part. It seems to be working for now.

3) The dry wall screw things break easily if you hit anything in the wall. For me the only way i was able to get it to work has finding a stub for the wall mount side and just using the screw and not the big dry wall screw thing. I used the dry wall screw mounts for the ceiling which worked fine.

4) Getting the lines tight was a little tough. It shows that you twist the mount once its installed to tightened but all that did was unravel the wire which made it looser. I just had to pull it hard and tighten the screws.

5) It's only been a day since i installed these, but my biggest question will be how long do these stay up before the rip out. They seem ok now, but it feels like it could rip out at any minute.

6) Be prepared to drill a bunch of big holes in your wall trying to get this to work. Maybe you will be the lucky one and be successful on your first 4 tries. For me i now have 5 big holes in my wall and ceiling that i need to patch and paint.

I purchased 2 sets to use on a 13' beam because I wanted more than 5 lights and to purchase each light individually is ridiculously expensive. I used all 10 lights and I love it! I followed the advice of others about how to replace the bulbs with LED equivalents to be used with a dimmer. I purchased an LED-compatible dimmer at Lowe's and I replaced 9 of the 10 fixtures with 4W LED's (Torchstar) and left one with the 20W halogen bulb. This provides 56 watts being used on the fixture and allows the dimmer to work properly. Installation was, for the most part, easy but if you've never replaced a fixture before, I would not recommend starting with this one. You have to get things level and measured off properly and doing this over a long span can be a little trying if you don't know what you are doing. The lights are adjustable to be pointed in any direction. I really liked the look of the turnbuckles provided but there are only 2 provided with each kit. The other 2 ends are just 1-piece stobs (which are shown in the picture). This is fine if you are going from a ceiling mount on one side to a wall mount on the other but I do not like the idea of using 2 different ends if you are going wall to wall or ceiling to ceiling. This, of course, is just a personal preference on looks. I used turnbuckles on all connections and am happy with the look.
we love cable lights

we love cable lights, they look modern, are easy to install and are flexible, letting you spread the light around the room as you see fit. This system comes with 5 MR16 halogen light heads (20w each) with a 100w transformer. We installed MR16 LEDs instead of the halogen bulbs that came with the set because they only use 4-5W each, and give off the same lumens as a 40W halogen bulb, so we are using 20-25w and getting 200-250w of light. We did not put them on a dimmer, but I have an older set on a dimmer and it works fine. This set does not have the finish of Tech Lights, which cost 3-4 as much, but they look good and are easy to install. We put them in an office, but they would be really helpful in a kids room, so you could task light a desk, and other spaces with the 5 different heads.
