Wanted to Love IT
eric1077✓ Verified PurchaseMarch 19, 2018
I really did want to love this radio, and I do love a lot about it. It was easy to install for one. I have never installed my own radio but thought I would give it a shot with this one. Instructions were clear and with the factory plug connections (purchased separate) made this a easy install. I love the sound of the radio, the ease of navigation through the functions, I love the volume control being a physical turn dial. I love the blue tooth music, and the hands free calling.
BUT: this radio has one major flaw that is driving me crazy! About once a week, when I crank my truck the radio does not come on automatically which makes me mad instantly because I know what is coming. When it does this I have to press the power button to turn it on and then it's like it has been reset to factory defaults. You have to set the clock again, set your radio stations again, set up your equalizer again ( if you have a sub like I do this is very aggravating).
As much as I love all the functions of the radio and everything else's about it, I would not buy this radio again just because it is so aggravating to never know when during the week I am going to have to reset everything before I can leave my driveway. I hope planet audio fixes this problem because I have several other planet audio products and I love them but this is a major issue.
So there were a couple of people that said the same thing in there reviews but I thought maybe they just got a bad one, if that's the case I got a bad one too. It's just not worth the trouble to take it out and send it back for the price I paid. I'll deal with it until I can afford a alpine and then I'll swap it out.
Unit "crapped out" after a week.

Replaced the factory head in son's 2002 Mazda Protege5; DDIN slot, using Metra DDIN dash and wiring harness kits. Hardware/screws included with unit were NOT flathead - which prevented unit from sliding into the DDIN slot - we had to scratch around in my screw box for some better screws. Wiring/installation fairly straightforward other than that. User interface fairly straight forward/intuitive; and (stated) capabilities at this price point seemed to be good value - but...

Unit "crapped out" after a week. Unit would not retain settings (clock/equalizer) upon initial install - after several days unit began to reboot randomly; and radio began to take several minutes to "warm up" before it would work. Finally after about a week it would not turn on at all. Well within the return window; so we uninstalled/returned it and installed the BOSS Audio BVB9364RC - made by the same company - similarly spec'd - but a noticeably better unit. Can't recommend this unit - especially compared to the Boss Audio unit - which sounds better and so far (after a week of use) is still working as intended. 1 star for poorly thought out installation hardware (the Boss Audio unit mentioned DOES come with flat head (bugle) mounting screws) and what I can only assume are poorly-manufactured IC boards inside.
Awesome a day then JUNK. Stay FAR AWAY!

I loved it first day. Then the unit kept rebooting and the clock and EQ had to be set every time it rebooted. I have installed many car stereos. I know that the wiring and harness and ground are PERFECT.

After the unit is on for 5 minutes or so the noise floor (white noise) is VERY apparent. ***There is a VERY LOUD audible hiss.***

This unit is probably a dud. But from other reviews of BOSS and Planet Audio decks I hear similar complaints.

I still decided to try this unit out with very generous expectations.

@ Boss and Planet audio...Why is your quality control and engineering sub par. GIVE US DECENT BUDGET UNIT. I am not going to try another one of your products.

It really sucks to have to tear your dash apart to remove and reinstall a new unit. BOOOO :(
Great for the money

People need to stop giving it a bad review ...
I have been in car stereo indastery for over 15 years ... For the money it is well worth it
... The 7 band EQ is nice and the video screen controll setting ... only thing I wish it had is sub level control and a bass and treble ...
Remote is a little spotty but if u can touch the screen who needs remote
A good value for the money.

First before I continue, I have reduced the stars from four to three. Nice stereo, one of the best that I looked at before I made a purchase. Like the Bluetooth a lot and the audio sounds really good plus good FM reception. A good value for the money.
It does fall short in a couple of areas though, I wish that it had HD radio so that it would display song information on the display. The wallpaper is kind of useless as it only is displayed on the Home screen and it defaults to whatever you are listening to at the time be it AM/FM, USB, CD or Aux input. The preset EQ settings are kind of strange but the user EQ allows a better output for cleaner sound. But!!! the biggest shortcoming has to be the hands free. If listening to the radio and get a phone call the unit will stay in the hands free area and will not revert back to the radio station that you listen to, you have to hit the Home key and then the Radio key to get back to the music. Now not all is bad, the mini mic for the hands free gives a good clear sound over the phone which is a plus. Depending on vehicle type that may vary, in my two door truck its as good as it can get without an external microphone.
I added the back up camera, SO far, I have to "select" camera from the menu in order to activate the camera AND then re-select from the menu for the radio. However, once a call has been made and you receive a call and then end the call it will return back to the radio function. I did not set up DVD play wiring as I have no intention of using that feature.
All in all I am pleased with it. Installation I would rate a 7 out of ten for difficulty with 1 being easy.
