Great Product.

Not a bad Casio G-Shock for the price. If you are new to the G-Shock world, then I would most definitely recommend this style.
It does what any digital watch would do, but amazingly enough, it's something about G-Shocks that makes a difference.
It is built like any other great product from Casio. Strong&Tough. I would recommend this for any weekend outers or anyone who doesn't mind getting your hands all banged up.
Great Product.
PS: If you have money to spend, buy the GW-5000-1JF. Its made in Japan. RICHH!

I really wanted to love this G Shock with the ultra Tacticool all blacked out looks. I knew going in that there was a good chance I would have to return it due to the combination of the Reverse LED and my not so good eyesight up close..
And yes I did return it as I found it too hard to read in all but the best light.. There is very little contrast between the grey numbers and the black background..
But.. If you can live with the not so easy to read screen and have good close up eyesight...you'll love this watch... I returned it and got the standard screen version (GW7900-1AL, also called the GW7900-1ER by some sellers) and have loved it ever since.. All the features are great.. Moon and Tide graphs are spot on and the Automatic time update is great..and not having to ever worry about a battery change is great..

Solar charging and atomic clock and the G-Shock toughness!!

I had my eye on this watch for a long time.. I love the fact it is solar charging and atomic time keeping.. Coming from Citizen brand watches ECO Drive and atomic time functions. This watch is highly functional for my daily use as well not having to worry about breaking since its a G-Shock, made tough! I kind of don't like the for screws on the front of the watch but it doesn't really bother me. I read from reviews that the screws tend to come off once a while, but have not had that problem yet. I wore this watch it high humid and heat in Singapore and Hong Kong, no problems. I didn't want to wait for the atomic clock to sync time so I use the build-in function to adjust the time zone. As a watch collector, I might also buy another G-Shock solar and atomic clock later on. This watch is all black, never had a watch all black so it's pretty cool for me.
My Everyday Wear Watch - The Best One Yet

Overall, I like this watch. I like the feature that it is solar powered since I am in sun light so much and I like the atomic time updates keeping the time in sync. There are two things I don't like about the watch, though. First, I was torn between purchasing a watch that provided lunar and tide information versus sun rise/set times and went with the tide info. I wish I had gone with the other. Yes, the tide information is presented, but I'm not sure it is all that usable for my particular needs. The second thing is the contrast of the number display on the dark face. My job/lifestyle sort of demands that I have a black faced watch. I do like the soft glow back light when I need to see the display in the dark whether I press the button to use the light or have it on automatic. During the day and even in well lighted rooms the display is easy to see but when the room darkens a little or the angle is not quite right to reflection available light, the display can be difficult to read. At these times I am forced to press the button, therefore, using two hands to see what time it is. Leaving the automatic light display on all the time will use more battery plus the display can be lighted when it would be inconvenient for it to do so. On my older G-Shock watch, I could adjust the contrast through the settings to make viewing of the display a little easier. If this watch had that capability, I would have rated it a five.
This GW7900B-1 is very easy to use and operate. My older G-Shock watch had so many different options and settings that I seldom used that I forgot how to use many of them. Additionally, my older G-Shock watch would gain about a second each day or day and a half. I had to constantly manually adjust the time to keep it accurate. Accuracy to the second is needed for my job. So far, the GW7900B-1 has been correct to the second every time I have checked it against GPS time. This is a big feature for me as it is the most accurate watch I have owned.
I don't have multiple watches to swap around for different uses. I have just this one. For my life style it works for me and it works while I work and play. Whether mowing grass, hammering nails, fishing, kayaking, bicycling, four-wheeling, shooting weapons, and other activities, this watch has not let me down. It is not a dainty watch that hides easily under long sleeves and a suit coat, but then neither am I.
I have owned Casio G-Shock watches now for close to 20 years and I think this is going to be the best one yet!
UPDATE 24 Jun 16: Just as I have done for the past 20 years, I was wearing my watch while using a gas trimmer and edger around the yard. Of course, grass and dirt flying freely. Today, I notice a tiny chip in the glass on my watch; tiny but still noticeable and annoying. This has never happened to any of my previous G-Shock watches.

Rugged, accurate, and tacticool.

I bought this watch because it syncs with the atomic clock and I wanted to have UTC and local time on the same screen. As a bonus I didn't want to have to change batteries and since this is solar, I should never have to do that. Where I work requires that we have access to accurate time and have found that when it is synced it is within a second or two of our official time clocks. It's as rugged as any of the G-shocks and is holding up very nicely to whatever I throw at it including field training. The only problem I have is actually a result of my misguided thinking. While this watch will hold a charge for a long time, you do need to make sure you expose it to light and unfortunately, I often work in a dark environment with zero access to natural light. This means when I am off duty I have to remember to leave my watch somewhere to charge up such as leaving it on a window sill or putting it under a lamp. If you work outside, you'll be fine but I literally can go a week or more without seeing daylight so it has actually died. I would be lying if I said that it's looks also didn't play a factor in it's purchase. The matte black finish and negative display looks cool and sort of matches my lifestyle. It's a big watch but I have found I can wear it on duty or off without looking weird but I am usually around people who are wearing g-shocks so it may not be appropriate if your sipping martinis at a jazz bar. Or maybe it is? Whatever your scene this is a great watch.
