Very Happy With This Unit

Replaced a 15 year old Malibu unit with this. This runs cooler and the built in photo cell is a very nice feature. Timer settings are a nice option too. I do not like to have the lights on all night and being able to set the timer in 2 hour increments is great. I switched all of my lights over to LED and this is only running at 30-40 watts now and stays cool to the touch. I did have this run my lights prior to the LED switch at 90-100 watts and it did run warm but, not so hot it was concerning. Using a hefty (12 gauge) wire makes a huge difference in how long these units last. I have neighbors that have similar setups to mine and they always have issues. Using 12 gauge wires and outdoor wire nuts, rather than the cheap push on connectors that come with most lights, makes a big difference in terms of the entire systems longevity. Many people cheap out on the wire and pay the price for it in the long run and this is something you certainly do not want to do over again after years of mulch have been covered over the wires and connections. I expect this unit to last at least 10 years. Only time will tell.
Affordable, quality unit with great features

This is a fantastic transformer for landscape lights. It's photocell detector is very accurate as far a starting a lighting cycle. Most I have seen in the past turn the light on way to early. This one actually waits till it is actually quite dark before it is enabled. Heavy duty, looks nice and easy to adjust. I like that the unit has 1 hour increments up to 9 hours. My other one had 2, 4, 6, 8 hour increments. It is surprising affordable given the quality and features. Perfect for my application. I purchased a second one for our other house.
One con: The connector was small for two large diameter 10 ga wires. I had to work hard to get them both in.

SHORT LIVED unit, Waste of money

Unfortunately, same bad experience as that reported by many others: The light sensor failed within just a few months, and by one year the unit stopped working. Attempts to make it work again have failed. The company "Great Household" refused to provide refund, based on return policy.
All considered, customers reviews written shortly after purchasing this unit may be meaningless... its the long-term experience that tells of product quality. Of note are at least 32 (!) dissatisfied customers critical reviews, including - in QUESTION section- another customer asking how to 'rescue' their unit which stopped working after one year...

I have been using this type transformer for several years. My first one worked well for about three years. Where I live, we tend to have occasions of low voltage. This is very hard on small components such as photoelectric cells. For that reason I have had to replace each of the two original transformers. This is a weakness of the product, but it probably remains the best in its class solution for me. I will continue to repurchase this item as long as my grid remains less that reliable.
Photo light sensor works great.

Works great with LED landscape lighting. Has a normal plus at the end that you plug into an outlet. As per the directions, make sure you don't have a light or anything shining on this. It will screw with the photo cell sensor and cause your lights to cycle on and off. The photo cell sensor does work great, though. It turns on the lights at just the right time at dusk, and turns them off right at dawn. The big box home improvement stores sell an almost identical clone of this unit for A LOT more money, so don't bother looking anywhere else.
