This antenna is an absolute rock star. I have a detached garage with a brick exterior 120' from my home which is brick as well. I have lived for years without the ability to get wifi in the garage and refused to run hard line. I bought a Amped Wireless TAP-EX2 wifi extender and finally had a signal in the garage but even with its 0.8w of output power (which is huge), the signal was still "weak" but usable.

Being a ham radio operator, I know all too well that antenna > power. So, I bought this antenna knowing Alfa's reputation and I gained a solid 7dbm inside the garage. I am now in the green and can stream music and youtube without interruption. I went from -60dbm to -53dbm and at times it went to -50. These are REAL numbers on an RF signal analyzer as well as a WIFI app. on my phone.

The base though is a complete joke. I tried it as well and I was DOWN 34dbm which put me 10dbm BELOW the stock antenna. The base is BEYOND lossy; its downright horrible. Buy the antenna alone for $9.99 and forget the $5 base, its unusable. RG-174 cable isn't the best but when you need thin coax, it is what it is. This stuff though is the worst I have ever experienced in my years of radio.

This antenna added some gain to my Wi-Fi router as would be expected from a larger antenna. The one I bought comes with a magnetic base and 4 ft cable which really didn't help in my case since I can move my Router 4 feet in any direction without much change in coverage. The 4 ft cable has some line loss which eats up some of the advantage of the higher gain antenna from Alfa. So, I chose to store the magnetic base and cable and instead connect the new 9 dBi antenna directly to my router, in place of the smaller whip antenna that it came with. (Alfa sells the antenna alone without the base and connecting wire for about $5 less). The Alfa antenna's improvement over the factory antenna is not super spectacular; it won't blow your socks off. But it certainly is noticeable. It increased my coverage enough to positively affect my ROKU TV streaming box in our den. Signal strength according to the ROKU setup went from "poor" to "fair" with the new Alfa antenna. And that increase was enough to stop the occasional stuttering and buffering that the ROKU box used to do with the factory issued antenna that came with my router. I wish I knew what that factory antenna's gain was. This Alfa definitely provides higher gain and is 50% longer than the factory antenna. The Alfa antenna is sturdy, well made, and offers the same swivel ability as the original antenna. It is a very good quality product that has done the job for me. If your reception is borderline now, this antenna will definitely improve the situation, and it's a lot cheaper than buying an electrical booster. I bought this antenna to replace the stock 2dbi antenna that came with my Sapido 1602 portable router which is located down in my basement. It improved page loading a lot, video streaming is a bit better. The thing that I noticed the most is that my connection doesn't drop as much as it used to happen when I had the stock antenna plugged into the router. The antenna I received is not the same as the one in the picture. It looks different but it does perform as described. It's a huge antenna and the magnetic base that came with it is very useful. If you plug the antenna directly to the router, a loss of speed seems to take place. I have it connected to the magnetic base as it seems to work at its full potential. I would say that it is a worthy purchase. Don't expect a gigantic improvement but at least in my case, it does show a betterment in speed and connection reliability.

I recently relocated my gaming pc to an out of the way location only accessible to the internet by wifi. when i tried connecting, there was no connection available and forced me to position my pc at an akward angle in order to pick up the spotty signal which led me to seek other options, and eventually to this product.

I had really high hopes for this product when purchasing and was a bit weary due to some of the previous reviews. so I ordered 2 as my pc wifi card had 2 antenna.

Upon hooking up the first of the 2 my signal strength increased 100% and my download speeds increased by 300%. The second was just icing on the cake, raising my Download speeds to match my ISP with a solid connection. although the connection is not full bars, it went from a spotty 1/5 bar to a solid 4/5. I am very satisfied.

I will note that if you use for a wifi receiver with multiple antenna, locate them relatively close together. It seems to help with the signal.

The antenna I received looked a bit different than the pictures here, but the packaging showed the boost rating to be the same, so I unscrewed the old antenna, screwed in the new one and then did some testing.

The results so far are solid. Using a Wifi signal app on my Nexus 7 Tablet I found that the signal strength increased by roughly the 10dB promised. The biggest improvement, though, is in download and upload speeds tested by another app. With the old antenna, I was having throughput issues even close to the base unit. Speeds dropping very low causing frequent buffering issues when streaming video. With the new Antenna, the speeds nearly doubled close to the unit. In areas of the house where I had trouble getting a useful signal previously, I now can stream reliably with out problems.

There is still one area of the house where the reception still isn't where I want it, so I'll next experiment with repositioning the antenna using the included cable.

Very happy though with the product.

Definitely cheaper than a powered signal booster or a relay unit. Depending on your layout, it may not solve all your issues, but it definitely does boost the signal AND appears to also make for a cleaner signal with better speeds and fewer lost packets.
