Better than you think!

I bought this item bundled with the duffel bags, and masterlock straps. Initial setup was a little difficult trying to figure out the best way to run the straps since I don't have a roof rack. The RoofBag is made from a durable waterproof material. In fact it reminded my husband of a similar material used by the military. The zippers are durable as well and the bag material overlaps it to prevent water from leaking in. If you buy this RoofBag, I would highly recommend you buy the duffle bags and upgraded straps. The duffle bags greatly aid in loading/unloading, and in fact it's just a great investment. Our family (2 adults, 3 teenagers) were able to load all of our clothes, linen, and more for a week trip and still had tons of room in the duffle bags. The upgraded straps are MUCH better than the snap buckle straps it comes with.

Again initial setup was a little difficult, but after that install and takedown was a breeze. Travel was good with it, but with anything soft you have to tighten the straps down to ensure it's snug. This is not an issue with the carrier, but rather the air flow on it will compact the items to the rear of the bag. So we stopped about 15-20 minutes into travel to snug it and again a few hours later. However only the initial snug check was all it needed. I would recommend the buckles be on the inside of the vehicle, otherwise you'll get a whistle type sound from it and get quickly annoyed.

This purchase was/is a fantastic investment and after a 14 hour roundtrip it held up nicely. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a great option to a hardshell carrier.
skies went black and a cool and warm wind picked up rapidly

First off, my experience with your RoofBag was one for the ages. We left Grove City, OH on April 3rd at approximately 5pm. As we walked out of the garage to the car, tornado sirens began sounding, skies went black and a cool and warm wind picked up rapidly. I, being the one essentially responsible for packing and driving the 10hr trip to see our son and his wife, thought that we should make a go if it and hoped to get out of the storm as we traveled southwest down I-71. I must admit, I was tentative about the RoofBag withstanding this type of conditions and let's just say I had some very sentimental and expensive items in there. Well, we made it less than a mile and marble sized Hail came down in buckets, smashing against the car and windshield. I thought, what a better way to test the RoofBag. We continued on, got on the freeway and the Hail stopped. However, we would learn shortly that a tornado touched down less than a mile due west of our residence, destroyed some houses and literally downed almost a dozen high voltage power poles that landed on 4 cars, trapping the occupants of all the vehicles. (no one wahurt amazingly and all were able to exit but it was more than 3hrs before they could do so due to the electric lines being charged) Anyway, we continued south on I-71. For the next 3hrs we topped out at 40mph due to terential downpours, side winds of 20-30mph and gusts of 50 randomly. It was brutal. However, we pulled off I-71 after approximately 60 miles of stated conditions when I happened I looked in rear view mirror and see something fly off the back of my car. Based on the size I figured it to be the b undermat that came with the bag. When I inspected it at the nearest safe area, I confirmed it to be only the undermat. Somehow the bag must have lifted just the enough for the mat to be sucked under the bag (which was about 120lbs) to be gone forever. No way was I going back for it. It did raise my suspicion though about the stability of the bag and straps. I made a few minor adjustments to include another cinching of the straps and off we went. The next 500 miles of our trip were unbelievable. We experienced nothing but similar weather conditions all the way to just an hour north of Montgomery when the rain stopped for the first time of our trip. We experienced high winds, wind sheers, cross winds, horrible drafting and gusts from semi-trailers and torrential downpours throughout. All that to say, each time I stopped en route, I checked the bag. I became more confident at each stop that the RoofBag was legit. Upon making our final destination, we easily removed the contenta and bag. When we opened the duffle bags we bought specifically designed for the RoofBag we were all amazed that not a single ounce of moisture was evident. Thanks for the amazing product. It was easy to install, carried more than I was expecting and held up amazingly well. I wish I could have my rubber undermat back but I have learned to maybe tighten down an extra pull or two. Thanks again!
100% waterproof without question, harshly tested, excellent quality! stores compact.

1st: I read ALL the reviews for the other car top carriers, both soft & hard shell, and have purchased in the past both soft and hard shell. the hard shell high end work excellent if you have the time to secure and unsecure them for every trip, and storage can be an issue when not in use. In 2012, I decided to purchase this product based upon the possitive reviews.
THE TESTS: My wifes family lives in Pennsylvania, and we work at a youth camp in Missouri. We travel twice a year across the country, (besides local 100-200 mile camping or family trips.) the cross country trips have both monsoon weather (severe rain & wind) and the deserts (heat), and of course freezing in winter travel. Contents remained completely dry!!!!!!, & no sand or dust either inside. Because after reading the other previous reviews about excessive internal heat in the Summer, we did not place any food or items that may sucumb to melting (left those inside our Toyote Sienna van).
Other tips: This bag rolls up easily (do it in temp. > 70 deg. for easier rolling) for easy storage in the corded fabric bag. It rolls up to about the size of a sm. to med. sleeping bag, so we were able to travel, and bring back stuff, that we didn't take or visa versa, then restore the bag in our van.
The ZIPPERS are heavy duty, which is an absolute for my purchase and use criteria, with well designed cover flaps as a secondary protection against water/dust intrusion.
The capacity holds 4 large tubs (with tops) and multiple sleeping bags and other camping stuff, which gave us a whole trunk/back area free for other stuff.
When packing less then full (full is best) I just added another tiedown to keep any flapping from occuring.
The only negative I have about this product is the securing straps that come with it. I tried multiple ways to secure them using the enclosed directions and other methods, you can jerry rig it with their straps (which ARE strong). but I simpley choose to use 2 ratcheting motorcycly type tie downs, (VERY easy compared) and worth the $20 extra. My van has racks on it, so I did not test it using car door based ties/or under interior roof as the directions say to use for no roof racks.
Overall my family & I am VERY please with it. I come from a family of farmers & do it your selfers. We live in Downey, Ca.
I would gladly do a commercial for this product. todays date: Dec. 17th, 2013.
Great Storage Carrier for those traveling without a car rack!

This Roofbag was a saving grace for me. I went on a week long trip all the way up PCH and across to Yosemite and it stayed put! The only complaint I would have is the non-skid mat for underneath, it constantly moved back and had to be readjusted several times. I suggest instead of having it lay flat on the roof that you fold the sides over so that it is completely tucked under the carrier to prevent the wind from moving it. Also be sure not to pull on the straps too tight when securing for they will be hard to unsnap due to the tension. Be sure when you buckle the carrier that it is not on the side of your window or it will scratch the paint of your car, instead have it secured more closely to the carrier than the car. I also used masking tape on the sides of the windows just in case the buckles slipped to prevent scratching (read this tip from previous reviewer). All in all I am so glad I purchased the RoofBag Top it made my trip that much more enjoyable instead of having everything crammed in my car (which would have been impossible when you are camping with three people!) Thank you PK Industries!
Easy to use and well made, but minor issue

I purchased the 15 cu ft bag for a trip from PA to Myrtle Beach. The bag seems to be durable as it was made with heavy duty "rubber vinyl." It allowed for the storage of 3 large suitcases, and a bunch of towels on the top of our 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport.

We used this bag without the roof rails as our SUV doesn't have them. This means we ran the provided straps along the roof inside the vehicle. Per the direction, I made sure not to secure the straps too tight which can affect the water seal on the door frames.

We ran into pretty heavy storms on our way down to SC. Pretty much from VA to SC. On the rear driver side door we had some minor water dripping or leakage from the nylon strap. The only thing I can think is the straps on the exterior became so saturated that it wicked its way down the strap and inside the vehicle. We remedied this by placing a towel underneath the drip for the rest of the trip. I even checked the straps to make sure they weren't too tight on the water seal.

This seems to be a good, quality bag that will hold up over time. Another reason we went with this style roof storage was the price point compared to the hard cases. Also, the bag is much easier to store since you can fold it up and keep it on a shelf.

I purchased the combo deal with the rubber mat that goes underneath the roof bag to protect your roof. Unless you're not concerned about your roof at all, I would recommend purchasing this rubber mat as well.

I could see this bag working perfect with roof rails on a car or SUV since the straps would not have to be run inside the vehicle. This would prevent any possible issues with water leakage.

I followed the directions and filled the bag as much as possible and had no issues with extra road noise. I also secured the extra material on the straps with zip ties to prevent them whipping around in the wind. I also noticed the bag did not shift at all during our 9 hr trip.

Would recommend this bag due to the quality construction, price point, and ease of storage when not in use.
