Exactly what I was looking for. Needed this item for my bearded dragon enclosure. I was placing a 150w basking bulb in it for a 4x2x2 and was informed that it's best to get a dimmer. I didn't have any issues at all with this item. I was told placing these on top of the enclosure may not be aesthetically pleasing to the eye however, I didn't have that issue. As long as my pet is getting what he needs, that's all that matters. Item was also at a great price with a coupon. Will be ordering more of these when I need them.
Great product

So far this product has worked out perfectly. I love that it clamps to the side of the tank and my gecko really enjoys having it to warm her up.
I have 20 - maybe 30? Something like that.

Just about every one of my tanks has one of these. I breed geckos so we're talking easily +/- 20 tanks. I've never had an issue and will keep buying them as long as I have tanks that need them. The dimmer is awesome and you can turn the lamp off at the dimmer. I can set the lamp really low in the summer when it's hot and turn it up high in the winter when it's cold. The dimmer won't work with a MVB bulb because the mercury vapor style is non-dimmable. I don't know if the MVB would work with the dimmer set to " full on" and not "dimmed" since I've never tried and the bulbs are too expensive and delicate to test it. It's also a bit flaky with the new led ones that don't give heat. (if you just need light) Even with the dimmer up to high so it's not "dimmed" the led bulbs have a tendency to flicker.
If you're trying to get to really really high temps though I recommend just getting a plain clamp lamp with a ceramic socket from the hardware store. The inside of these is white which won't reflect quite as well as the silver if you're trying to get as much heat as you can with something like a 275 watt bulb. (my tegu is a good case in point) Besides if you're trying to get every watt you can out of a bulb you won't need the dimmer anyway.
I've only ever had one break, which in my opinion was pretty great odds considering the amount I've bought. The inside of the socket came out when I tried to unscrew the bulb. I've used the lamp with household bulbs, ceramic heat emitter bulbs, heat lamp bulbs, and the led bulb mentioned above. I seems silly to go on and on about how wonderful a plain dimmer lamp is but it is very useful and I recommend it to everyone who has a reptile that needs light or even to people who just need a clamp lamp with a dimmer.
I never use the clamp though, so I can't give a review on that. It gets in the way on my setups so I always toss it. On the few tanks that need a hanging lamp I use a lamp stand (I think made by Zoo Med) which hangs the lamp evenly, is adjustable and the arm swings out of the way if I need to reach something. I recommend this if you can't get the clamp to work right or if you don't have anything to clamp onto.
