It works.

It works. That's what I wanted it to do.
Poor build quality, not working on arrival

Amazon really needs to stop selling these preamps. After looking through the reviews, at least half (or more) of those who buy these get one that is either dead on arrival, only partially works, or dies after a month of use. I tried to be optimistic and give it a shot, but that was a mistake.
Only one channel actually worked when I got. Left side was completely dead. I tried everything, isolated components, tried my setup with different devices-- but nothing. Sent it back, got a refund, and paid a little more for a ART DJ Pro phono preamp. The ART is extremely good for the price, has gain and frequency controls, and sounds great. If you can't afford the ART, maybe gamble with the cheap boss phono preamp instead (I haven't tried it, so I can't recommend). But I beg you not to be stupid like I was and assume that these things simply have lemons shipped out which are a small percentage of the ones that work. Even if this thing worked, it's extremely cheaply built and has absolutely no controls on it. Seriously, buy something better or at least different.
And again: Amazon needs to rethink selling this thing. Probably the worst product I've ever bought on this website and I'm an extremely frequent Amazon buyer.

Dead on Arrival, hopefully the next one will work

I received this DOA. Amazon only had the option for a refund, though I will buy a second one to try again since overall everyone's results have been positive. I hope to update this review with good news of a working second unit.
I spent some time verifying all my cables, power, amp, turntable all worked properly independent of this item to be sure. I have a killowatt meter and this device did draw 1.0 - 1.1 watts while plugged in, but produced zero sound output. It did not even output an unamplified phono level signal like plugging in the turntable directly to the amp. I also tried reversing the input/outputs on this device just in case it was mislabeled.

I bought a new receiver from Best Buy for my surround system. The new receiver remote did not have a button for phono, nor did the receiver have a plug-in for my phono cables. In checking back with Best Buy I was told to use an unused plug-in (in this case the CD plug-in). In doing so I didn't have any sound. I then called Sony and was told that since my phono was at an age that was not accepted by the new receiver I would need to purchase a Phono Preamplifier. I went back to Best Buy and was showed a model that would cost around $80. I felt for that price I could purchase a new phono, so I went on-line and found this. Upon plugging the phono cables and plugging it in, I had beautiful sound. I am very happy with this purchase.
Dead in the water...

I was really pulling for this little guy. I too own a newer receiver that is phono pre-amp challenged, so when I saw this one that had it's own power cord and not a wall wart, I pulled the trigger. Disappointingly, it did not work at all, no signal.
Well, a couple of clicks, and Amazon had the return sorted, and I went ahead and ordered the little Behringer, and all is well. I own a Behringer mixer that is a nice piece as well, so I say steer clear of this turkey and stick with a name you know. Lesson learned again.
