Don’t waste your money on this!

Don't waste your money on this snake oil. Bought two of these to keep our beagle out of our flower garden. I can see the red light activate whenever there's any motion nearby... up to at least 10' away. BUT, it has absolutely no effect on our dog! Imagine our laughter when the dog returned to dig up his favorite fern"”less than a foot directly in front of the device. What a joke!
Do not repel rodents

Do not repel the squirrels. I bought this product from Harriet catalog and it worked for ten years. I bought this same products and placed it in my yard front and back and now I see the squirrels. They are next to the activator. I would like a refund for the two products. I bought them in November. Maybe you need to send me two more to check to see if they will work. I didn't notice the squirrels until now.
SCAT DOG!

It does what it is supposed to do. I have two, and people walking their dogs are dragged across the street when they
get to my house. One weakness - - the solar charger is iffy - - on one of mine it works to spec, on the other I have to
remove the batteries for recharging every few days. New input. Amazon responded promptly to my solar charger
problem. I now own four of these devices and rarely do I have an objectionable reminder of a canine visit. A word
of caution: There are apparently two variations, one with an ultrasonic alarm, and one with a strident sonic alarm.
The sonic one repells passersby with or without dogs, is objectionable to my neighbors and to the Postman. It is
not appropriate for urban use.
new batteries are not easy to find

it does seem to work to repel racoons but it is finiky to use. i purchased three of them as a closeout. the first thing i found out is that they take a long time to charge the batteries. this may because the dates were old and after two weeks in the sun (only strong sun about 4 hours per day available) they were still only 1/2 charged. new batteries are not easy to find, even on line. second, one must position these at the height of the critters one is trying to dissuade. pointing these downward doesn't seem to work as well as straight at the animals. i used mine to cover a half circle and they overlap and are about 15 feet from the focal point. so far i'd say they are about 80% effective. but as a point of reference i have tried all the various on line ideas including ammonia, cayanne pepper, bleach, coyote pee and various combinations of these. one thing that is quite effective is shaved irish spring soap. really! they seem to hate the smell of this stuff. irish spring with the sonic gizmos increases my deterrence rate to nearly 100%.
IT WORKS WELL BUT THINGS YOU NEEDTO KNOW.

My neighbor purchased this item last year after the deer, squirrels and raccoons raided her garden now she swears by it as exactly what she needed.

I received this as a 80th. birthday gift, read the instructions set it up after plowing the garden.

Just checked for footprints, saw where 1 raccoon and 1 deer entered the garden when they got close enough to activate the Bell and Howell unit the animals turned and exited the garden.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Is the battery charged? Be careful getting the battery tray out as the electrical wires are small.

Test the machine they detect movement at 50 feet, it has about 40 degree coverage from center.

The strength of the battery probably makes for a louder sound and a longer detection range.

Be careful unpacking the unit as the solar panel on mine was not glued and fell to the floor when I removed the unit from the package lucky it did not break.

Be sure to read the instructions.
