Terrible instructions. No tech support number
Bolan•September 26, 2017
IMPORTANT INFO FOR PEOPLE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS PRODUCT: Terrible instructions. No tech support number. The following is what I have found may be helpful on set up (cause it sure doesnt tell you any of this in the manual) You plug the scanner into your USB, on a Mac it seems to think its a key board and wants you to verify it, but anyway, moving along, scan (at a slight angle) the tiny bar code on page 4 at foot of page titled: 'enter set up', then go to the bar code selection and choose the one you want. Most likely 'reading mode' - multiscan, then open a text field in whatever program you want (Excell etc) and it will show the UPC code in that field. If you want to try this right now, just click on the 'customer question' field on this Amazon page and it will act as your text field. Scan something and the UPC will show in that field (your welcome)
overall good scanner. it does have design flaws and one connectivity issue.
Jay from Baltimore•August 31, 2017
Overall I like the item, it works ok and is inexpensive, but I have three gripes. Two are design based, one is a connectivity problem.
First, the thing is not balanced well. sitting in it's docking cradle, the base is such light plastic that it tips over if not perfectly weight balanced. the buyer would likely need to nail or screw the base down on a countertop to keep the thing from flopping over.
Second, The docking cradle does not securely nest the scanning unit and it pops out / falls out of it's cradle all the time. I have a rubberband wrapped around the scanner and the nesting dock to hold the scanner in place.
Third, after about 30 minutes the scanner stops communicating with the computer while plugged into the USB port, so I have to unplug the scanner USB male end of the cord from the laptop and then replug it in. this seems to "refresh" the scanner so it communicates with the computer again.

Used in our elections
Sojourner Truth•May 17, 2017
I am a member of our county electoral board -- a rural Virginia county. We use laptops with our pollbook installed to check in voters. That is, the laptop contains a database with search capability to lists all our registered voters.
At each election, we have a small problem -- 4,5,6, 7 voters out of 4,500 -- with the wrong voter being checked in as a result of poll worker error. Most of our poll workers are older folks, not comfortable with computers.
We ordered these scanners because, according to the software vendor, could simply plug it into the laptop and scan a voter's driver's license or voter ID card and the database will look up the voter, thereby eliminating operator error.
WORKS PERFECTLY. Plugged in the scanner, no setup, started scanning. Our poll book errors are zero. We have six polls, two laptops per poll, 12 scanners plus two for training and spares.
Not a problem and the poll workers love them.

Plug and play!

I am an elementary school librarian. Recently my really nice ($200 +) wireless scanner stopped working. While I wait for the replacement I decided to purchase this. It works great for my needs. I just plugged it in and it worked. I don't even need to pull the trigger. I placed it in the stand and just slide the books under it. This is a time and budget saver!
Doesn't scan very well.

I am disappointed with this scanner. It doesn't scan very effectively compared to other scanner I've used. It's got 2 big issues.
1: It takes A LOT of trouble to scan a UPC. I have to hold the item at different angles or hold the scanner at different angles and distances to get it to behave. That's a waste of my time. I feel like it scans accurately and quickly about 20% of the time. My phone scans better.
2: When it does eventually scan the UPC, it doesn't always send the UPC through to the device I'm using. Sometimes it will, sometimes it feel like the scanner just makes the scan noise just so I will stop trying to get it to scan.
Overall, It works a little, but when it's only purpose is to SCAN..... then having massive trouble SCANNING is a problem for me!
