Seems solidly built. However it's lighter than expected. It's lighter than an old 1/2 ton hoist I have, but rated for much more weight.
The lift hook on this 4000lb unit has a pulley doubling the lifting force. However that means twice as much chain needs to move to lift an object, so it's a bit slow. But for my applications it works fine.
One Con: When I first set up the unit it was really cold out, and I noticed the unit freewheeled down when I put weight on the hook. I had to work the hand chain back and forth for a minute or two to get the brake to grab. After that it's been fine.

This is one bad-to-the-bone chainfall... Period. The chains feed through tapered guides, and this guy just does NOT bind. I'm really pleased with this purchase. It forgives your momentary lack of attention when you pay too much attention to the load, and not enough to the lift angles. This is exactly what the doctor ordered for my shop. GREAT purchase..! Price is a little high, but in this case, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend this..;~)
