Wow, this was easy. Take pack out of package. Put pack in humidor, touching cigars or not touching them. A few hours later humidity stabilized at what I wanted it to be. I've been screwing around for weeks, opening lid for an hour or two, trying to figure out how to saturate this sponge, dealing with built-in sponges that have magnetics and failed adhesives, et cetera et cetera.
Never again. Boveda 4 life!
Just for kicks I looked at the safety data sheets for these packs. Basically it's water, ions, and a thickener/gel former, packed in a membrane that can pass water vapor by osmosis. The 72% pack is sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and xanthan gum. Non-toxic, totally normal food grade stuff. No worries!

Have been using these in my cigar humidors for several years and most of them are still charged after multiple years. I use them in conjunction with gel beads and since Boveda packs are two way, they seem to maintain their viability.
I do have them in either a Xikar plastic humidor and I have found, that a Nanuk plastic gun carrying case also works well since it is a sealed, water proof case. The packs work very well in a traditional wooden humidor, but will not last as long. Plastic storage is the way to go if your lazy like me.
In any case, my cigar storage maintains a 69% to 71% humidity level with minimal effort on my part.
Will continue to use.

It took two seasonings and 5-6 weeks to stabilize my humidor at 72% here in the dry climate of Colorado. I also had to put a shot glass of distilled water in the humidor for a couple of weeks (which seems like overkill at the time, but that was necessary in hind sight). I have a 100 cigars box with about 60 'tin-size" cigars (Padron, Oliva and Rocky Patel for example). I have three Boveda 72% packs inside and the humidity has been perfect for several weeks now. I'll buy Boveda packs again

I love these things! I have been using them in my humidor for the last year or so and I don't think I will ever go back to distilled water. I love that I can set it and forget it and I know that they will keep them right at the posted humidity. they work great in all types of humidors, boxes, bags or whatever you keep you sticks in. I don't notice any taste change and everyone that I have talked to doesn't too. if you are like me and like to keep you cigars fresh but don't like to have to fiddle with different types of humidification this is the way to do it. you just put a bag or two in and keep an eye on your gauge, easy as that.
