It whacks, it rakes, it scrapes.

This tool works surprisingly well considering its relatively light weight. It is great for clearing trails, with light digging and light branch cutting. You wouldn't get far with just this, but in addition to a proper brush cutter, it's the bee's knees.

Review Nupla FHR-48 Heavy Gauge McLeod Fire Tool
Gene D•February 25, 2017
Excellent for building Mtn Bike Trails. Out performs other tools 3-1 for several reasons.
Note: This tool is for Firemen where RAKING is important, so sharpness of the straight edge is not important.. For building Mtn Bike Trails, however, cutting roots is important. So for this, you should file/sharpen the straight edge and it is great for roots. This should be the first thing you do.
This tool is HEAVY duty with a fiberglass handle which is stronger and lighter than wood. It is 48" and not 6 ft long as most rakes and shovels but after using it, you will like the 48" length. Remember, fiberglass handles WILL break and you will find that you have a lot of leverage, I have not broke mind but there is a limit.
Broke handle in half

I thought I'd try the fiberglass handle, so bought this. Liked it at first, so bought a second one, but finally broke the handle in half. You may blame it on user error, but I've been using wood handled mcleods for 40 years and never had that happen. A friend had one and the same thing happened. The second one I bought is still working, but the head loosened up on it. For light occasional use, it will work fine, but if you are doing some serious work, get a wood handle.
