This is my new favorite sun hat
Brad✓ Verified Purchase•October 14, 2017
This is my new favorite sun hat. I have a big head and finding hats that fit me is sometimes difficult. I ordered the extra large size of this hat and it actually fits slightly loose. No worries because I like it that way for comfort and when there is a breeze, a bungee cord in the hat band can be pulled with one hand to snug it up. The bungee can be released with one hand too. The brim on this hat is very wide... wider than any other sun hat I own. The brim is contoured so that it lays nearly flat against the back of my neck. I love that too because I backpack with my son's Scout troop and I hate when a hat's brim interferes with my backpack. This one doesn't. Made of nice thin lightweight material with a liner ever so slightly smaller than the outer layer. This allows any breeze to get into the ventilation slits easily and get through the entire hat. The brim is stiff enough to handle moderate wind, but probably not strong winds. The fabric is a quick dry type.
So light and so versatile for different weather conditions.

Amazing hat for hiking in different weather conditions. I initially bought this for my husband 2 years ago, and he loved it. We recently came back from our trip in Alaska where I borrowed his hat and was super impressed that I ordered myself one as well. First of all, it packs so easy in a suite case because the head part flattens and the brim is thin. Yet, the brim keeps its shape. The size L was a bit too big, but it has the elastic in the back to adjust, and since the hat is super light, it was very comfortable.
When i wore it for a long hike on a rainy day, it kept my face and head completely dry, and yet the hat still remained feather light and dried so quickly. And when I wore it on a hot, sunny day, it shaded my face and the back of my neck from direct sun light. Its feather-light weight is really great that you're not thinking you're wearing a hat, yet it protects you from many elements.

I instruct at driver skills clinics and I am called on to coach new autocross drivers and I spend all day hopping in and out of student cars. I needed a hat that would protect me from the sun, stay on my head despite the extremely windy conditions that are the norm at the primary site we use, and stand up to a certain amount of abuse without my having any regrets (as opposed to my fur felt Akubra hats that I deeply regret abusing).
This hat rocks. It stays on my head under very windy conditions without my having to use the chin cord. It is cool to wear on hot days and can absorb moderate amounts of perspiration if I wear it when I am out hiking.
I made the mistake of throwing mine in the dryer after laundering it on a hand wash cycle. It was fine coming out of the washing machine, but the brim was not happy at all with the dryer. I tried ironing it with no success. Lesson learned - next time I will let it dry on its own. I bought another hat and I'll donate the old one to Goodwill.

I love this hat. It's my third of this type, and I like it because it fits my head and has a tie I can use to keep it from blowing off. I don't look like I have a big head (22-23 cm.), but I have trouble finding hats that fit. My first sun hat was just a little snug, and when it was drenched in a downpour it shrank to the point where it gave me a headache. The second one was lost before I could decide what I thought about it. Then I tried this style in a medium and it had that "just a little snug" feeling so I sent it back. This one, the size large, is just right. It fits comfortably but if I decide it's too loose I can cinch it up a bit. It will be able to handle a little shrinkage should that occur. And it won't blow away thanks to the chin strap.
My "Go To" Sun Hat

I tried on a bunch of hats at sporting goods stores and narrowed my search down to the OR Sombriolet and similar hats made by Sunday Afternoons. I went with the Sombriolet because I like the removable chin cord and vented design. It's light-weight and reasonably stylish for a functional sun hat. However, I'd prefer a roomier fit and had a less prominent logo.
