Beautiful knife! Fine workmanship, good edge, epoxy-coated. I would rather the blade was not coated. Who passed a law that all knives have black blades? I love the shine of steel. This a great piece of work anyhow, U. S. made!

The original USN MK 1 was manufactured by Colonial Knife Company in Providence, RI. I purchased a Colonial MK 1, and found that although it was a very nice American made knife, I still hankered for the KaBar.
The KaBar is a much nicer knife; came out of the box razor sharp, and has a great feel to it. It's almost too pretty to use. I think I will let the Kabar MK 1 sit, and beat up the Colonial.
I go out of my way to purchase knives made here in the USA; and I am never disappointed by a KaBar or a Case knife.
Only negative is that the leather sheath is made in Mexico...a very nice sheath, but still not American made.

Great work knife for my job. Lovely handle grip and once sharpened goes through things like a hot knife through butter.

WOW....I love this knife. This was purchased for me after I won a bet (thank you H.C. for losing) and I couldn't be happier with my winnings. As previous reviewers have commented, the knife is RAZOR sharp out of the box. I did the foolish "try to shave" with the knife, but only on the back of my hand.......It did so well I contemplated shaving my face, but I decided that may not have been a good idea.
I've always wanted a Ka-Bar, but I also wanted something that was a little different.....Wala....the Mark 1.
The knife is actually a little smaller than I thought it would be, but it's actually just the right size for carrying while camping. It's definitely a heavy, well made knife, and the handle is slightly thicker than most which is great for my large hands (friends refer to them as "frozen turkeys").
The Sheath is very well made, extremely thick, seemingly high quality leather. This knife will be with me for the rest of my life, and something I'll definitely pass onto my son.
