Be ware, I thought the key was just an override option if you could not or did not want to mess around with the combination portion, no, you need both they key AND the combination to open the safe up.

I would NOT recommend this safe brand to ANYONE

I would NOT recommend this safe brand to ANYONE! We've had this safe for about a year or so. We keep all of our important documents in it, including our passports. When we finally got the chance to schedule our honeymoon, we went to get it out of the safe and the safe had totally distorted it. It was warped, had brown stains, and was completely ruined. We kept the moisture packs in it like adviced, so there is no excuse for this. When I called the company about the issue, they never once apologized for this and countiued to find every excuse on how to blame us for the issue. Not only did the safe cost a pretty penny, but having to pay TWICE to get our passport redone made it that much more expensive. I will never buy from this company again. Not only are we out a lot of money, but they also have awful customer service.
Nice Affordable Safe

Got this safe to protect some documents and back up hard drives in the case of a fire, not really realizing that if this thing is in a blazing fire for more than an hour your data will likely be destroyed on a hard drive or USB device. Documents will not combust in the radiant heat but the heat will be high enough that data will be lost. I put my hard drive in any extra case with thick foam with hopes that it will be insulated to last a bit longer. The safe feels very durable and is moderately heavy, though it slides around on my wood floor when I try to open it. One other minor issue is that the wheel on the combination lock doesn't glide really easily and feels like it catches a little bit. If I wiggle the handle/latch that you use to open the door sometimes it will allow the wheel to spin more freely without catching. Nothing major, just a slight annoyance. I do feel more confident overall with this safe that my important data will survive than without it, so that is nice. If I could re-do my purchase I think I would spend a bit more for one that has a longer time span to protect my data.
