I ordered the 50 lb Semi-sweet chocolate mega chunks. The product arrived in a cardboard box (slightly battered), but when I opened the box, I found that the chocolate chunks were exposed. The blue plastic garbage liner that the chocolate chunks were in was not sealed in any way. I do not even want to taste one, as that method of packaging is not at all sanitary. The packaging was additionally unsettling because the blue garbage liner was very thin and was unlabeled. In the past, I have purchased this product in the smaller bags, and they are delicious -I thoroughly enjoy them. I just do not feel comfortable eating these with the extremely poor and unhygienic packaging job.

This review is specifically for the 5 lb bag of dark chocolate morsels. I've ordered EnjoyLife in individual bags before and love the product. I ordered the bulk bag as I was planning to make a large amount of cookies for Christmas. First, the 5 lb bag did NOT come heat sealed and the ziploc was open. That to me was a contamination risk. Second, I specifically ordered the dark chocolate for lower sugar content and while the label on my bag said that it was "Dark Chocolate Morsels", the first ingredient was cane sugar and had 7g of sugar out of 15g serving size. EnjoyLife website has this product at 5g sugar out of 15g serving size. The ingredient list described in the product description or the images did not match what was on my package or what is on the EnjoyLife website. Understandably, variations occur, but this was not acceptable. I've already contacted Customer Service and they have refunded my order, but I wanted to let other knows in case they are considering purchasing the 5 lb to inspect and ensure it is sealed and what you are expecting especially if there are expectations of a product that is free of allergen but could be at risk for contamination.

These vegan, mini chocolate chips taste delicious and they are terrific to bake with. I had not used mini chips before, and they work great for better distribution of chips throughout the chocolate chip cookies I made. Below is the recipe I used, which is one I developed for myself after a lot of experimenting with ways to avoid using sugar yet still have cookies taste sweet. I have included some pictures of the cookies I baked as well as what the dough looks like when made in a food processor. I will definitely purchase these chocolate chips again!

Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Mix these dry ingredients together well or sift them together if preferred:

2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
2 tsp. stevia
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. sea salt

Puree in food processor:

1 medium, peeled and cored apple (or 1/2 cup applesauce)
60 gm pitted dates
1/2 cup coconut oil
1 tablespoon vanilla extract (I make my own)
1/4 cup maple syrup

Gradually add in 1/2 of the dry ingredients to the pureed mixture in the food processor.
Remove the pureed mixture from the food processor and place in a bowl.
Stir in the rest of the dry mixture and add last:

1 cup Enjoy Life Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini-Chips

For convenience, I use my toaster oven rather than turning on my regular-sized oven (easier to deal with and uses less electricity). As stated above, I preheat my toaster oven to 325 degrees. I use a 1-tablespoon-size melon-ball scoop to measure out balls of cookie dough onto a greased silicone baking sheet which is specifically sized for a toaster oven. I press the cookie-dough balls flat. I then bake the cookies on the toaster-oven rack on its top level for 9-10 minutes. The cookies have a moist and chewy texture.

This recipe makes about 44 cookies at approximately 75 calories each.

I love Enjoy Life products and have been purchasing the chips for a few years now. I love the snack packs for a small, quick clean chocolate fix. I have purchased them before via another vendor and they were perfect and fresh. I expected the same (or better) from the manufacturer. On this order, every snack pack so far has white dust/bloom on the chips, typically seen when the chocolate not stored or packaged properly. Also, the best by date is January 2018 (or about 4 months from purchase). Also seeming to indicate they may be getting old. They don't taste fresh either. As a steady customer, disappointing to get this stale product from the manufacturer.
