DONT USE INCLUDED SOFTWARE!!!!
Michael G.March 15, 2017
1) DO NOT USE INCLUDED SOFTWARE!!!!!

I loaded the software and it took down my graphic's card/software drivers! Corrupted my OS and now had to buy a new computer while the existing one was dialed back to a 1.5-year-old backup of the drive!

Good thing my computers have 2 drives... one for the OS and the second as a dedicated Data drive. Fortunately, I did not loose data, just LOTS of time...

2) Resolution of close-ups is really poor. Pretty much useless for my application. Spend the extra $20 to get a real 2MP camera. VGA just doesn't cut it.

3) Finicky to work with. Tripod idea is good; but poor execution. Focusing on an object using the tripod is a frustrating exercise in iteratively focusing the camera.
Good value

Image quality is better than expected, though I can't get the zoom to work (may be a Windows 10 problem). Tripod is spindly and not very stable, as others have noted -- but it's easy enough to rig up something else. At first I couldn't save and find my photos using the default path (...microscope/images/...) but I created a new path (...microscope/photos...) that works fine. This scope is economical and more than adequate for the intended use, which is to find and read small markings on old jewelry, watches, etc.
This is fun!

Man, this is really cool. Good bang for the buck. It takes a little playing around with to get used to distance, focus, etc., but not too much. You'll be
able to really see stuff close up. The only thing that won't really work I think is that I wanted it primarily to see in my ears, and it's just barely to big to really get in there, but that's a minor complaint. I've really had fun looking at skin, my tongue, and any other gross things I've found in my apt, lol.
A very useful tool.

I would rate 5 stars if it can be used in the dark or low light. I bought it to check the alignment of the BGA chips and it is working good for me. If the lens housing is smaller, I will rate 6 stars.
The view is clear and ability to be able to focus is a great plus. The housing was a little big for microsoldering works but it gets what I need so far. The light adjuster needs a little more control as I cannot use dim light. When I tried to dim slowly and it goes off before I get it to a very dim light. It will be great if the light can have at barely visible to avoid reflection.
The advantage is the ability to focus and I even use it to monitor the front.
The photos are taken without the small tripod and holding it. It is great for the price and its quality for the components. The resistors are 0201 to be able to figure out the magnification.
Find alternate software for this adequate microscope.

I'm using this microscope attached to the head of a mill and use it for calibration, setup and inspection. The resolution and magnification is perfectly adequate: I can very confidently measure distances of 0.0002" or so with it.

The software that comes with it is atrocious, however, riddled with obvious bugs, for which I knock off two stars. For example, the crosshairs don't draw correctly, and which parts are missing changes depending on the size of the window. Also, the measurement features work, but are really awkward to use. The viewport is plagued with some kind of overdrawing bug that freezes the view and redraws it at a different resolution over the top of the live view until you exit measurement. The whole thing has the feel of a bad windows 3.1 app.
