8-Port Bi-Directional Cable TV HDTV Amplifier Splitter Signal Booster

8-Port Bi-Directional Cable TV HDTV Amplifier Splitter Signal Booster

Key features

  • Provides 8 amplified output ports plus a modem bypass port. The modem bypass port is not required to be used, so the amplifier can be used for standard OTA antenna connections also. This is item is an alternative to the PCT-MA2-8P.
  • Increases signal by +2dB on each port boost! Each port on the amplifier will be boosted by 2dB above the signal on the input. This allows you to connect longer cable runs and keep the signal strong.
  • Will reduce cable pixilation and graininess due to low signal levels. Typical low signal problems cause audio dropouts and pixilation. Boosting the signal before splitting (as this product does) often fixes signal issues.
  • Provides uninterrupted service at all times for critical applications connected to the BYPASS port, such as cable telephony, that require high reliability.

Only for cable applications.

This unit is built well but cannot be used as intended for OTA antennas. I discovered this upon opening the unit and reading the disclaimer that this can only be used for cable applications, not for satellite or OTA.
This unit might be great if your signal strength is low
george spelvinNovember 30, 2014
This device didn't help at all, though I can honestly say I am not sure what my signal strength was before I installed it. I had some reception issues that I hoped this would resolve and it didn't. But who knows? The issue might lie somewhere other than signal strength. And that's my point. Unless you know for sure that you have a weak signal, this device may just provide a convenient connection of all your cable uses.

So take my '3' rating with a grain of salt. This unit might be great if your signal strength is low. But if you're not sure, you might want to get the signal measured before you spend the money.
Perfect! Works great with Comcast and Motorola SB6141 cable modem

I switched from having my cable lines in various rooms splitting outside (coming in on multiple lines) to coming in on one line to my maintenance room and splitting there. This splitter allows me to run an 8 way split with just one splitter (this one) and no signal degradation.

The bypass pass through works exactly as intended. One week after installation, I lost power for about 10 minutes. Sure enough, with my cable modem using the pass through line, my internet service and VOIP phone service that relies on it were both still working since I have a UPS that maintained power (to the cable modem, router, and phone) during the interruption. Just what the doctor ordered!! I would definitely highly recommend this splitter - it is easily worth the money. If I need any further splits, I will definitely use a PCT device.
NOT a 4dB boost per port
Tim AnsaraJuly 26, 2013
Amazon's Page lists this as 4dB boost per port. It is NOT. it is a zero dB boost per port (meaning you don't get any signal loss, but you don't get any gain either. It still worked for me since I eliminated two splitters (one taking 7db and the other 3.5) so In my situation It still helped. Just want anyone looking to buy this to be aware of the fact. Other then that, the unit works fine.
Not for OTA RF input!
makrieMay 23, 2013
"If you don't need the bypass feature, the amplifier work exactly like the MA2-8P regardless and give you worry free operation that PCT is known for providing." NO...IT'S NOT!" At least according to the manufacturer... A single bypass port does not a "passive return amplifier" make! If using OTA RF input specifically recommends the MA2-8P without exception.

Long story short...I bought this based on based on the statement quoted above! The unit also failed after two days, switching to bypass mode requiring reset by killing power to unit. This worked initially for a day then reset only worked for 30 seconds or so!

I gave the unit 2 stars based on the quoted misinformation...the unit should work fine for cable! I'm confident failures from this manufacturer are rare as I replaced with the correct model based on excellent customer experience with them.

Returned for refund and purchased model recommended by manufacturer.
