This is plugged into a Asus router with customized firmware. The 551L now provides internet access for the multiple users on the office LAN. Seems to get about 17 mbps download on a regular basis with a good 4G signal. No problem getting the SIM from Verizon Wireless and adding it to an existing account.

Made my own version of a mifi hotspot with this and a little portable WAP from TPLink. What is nice about the combo, over something like a netgear jetpack or similar battery operated product, is that not having a battery mean it can operate for months on end with no user attention needed. Just threw a jetpack SIM card in there, hooked it up to PC first to make sure it worked and was connected, then attached it to the miniWAP and logged into that to make sure it recognized the USB modem, and it was up and running. Worked much better in terms of reception than jetpack too.

We have an older air card that is not supported with our new Chromebook and so after calling Verizon, we were told that since we were under contract, we could not upgrade our old air card for another year. We could however purchase this model and then call them back to set up getting a new SIM card and also to transfer service to the new air card, blah, blah, blah. SO, I ordered this model and not only did it arrive much sooner than expected, but all I did was pop the SIM card out of the old air card and put it in the this new model and then connect to the Chromebook and vuala, worked perfectly!

Works just fine BUT most Verizon stores don't carry the mini-sims any more and their systems won't let you activate a micro-sim on this device so you can't use one with an adapter. You have to call Verizon and have them overnight you a mini-sim.
