Deer population 1, homeowner zero!

The deer start to show up in my suburban front yard at this time of year as the nuts start dropping off of my oak tree. While this device seems to trigger as expected and as evidenced at night by the flashing strobe light, the deer don't seem to be annoyed by it. I have tried moving the device closer to where the deer hang out and also have tried adjusting the frequency within the deer arc but still no luck. I keep the human detectible audio level low so I don't disturb the neighbors. Note that in order to adjust the device levels, you have to pop off the back cover. The remote is able to control the unit from within my house at a pretty good distance. While the unit can be powered by 4 C batteries, I power the unit using the provided power supply. I agree with m-a-n-y others that putting the back cover on takes some patience. If the back cover was made of a softer more flexible material the problem would probably be solved. I have found that if the back cover is exposed to the sun (warmed up a bit) that the back cover is then more flexible and easier to put back on. With the unit set for deer control, the dogs that go by my house don't seem to be bothered either.
9-19-17 Last night when I looked out to see if any deer were in my front yard, I found a buck standing point blank in front of this device eating nuts off of the ground. The device was triggered as evidenced by the flashing strobe light, but this deer didn't seem to be bothered one bit.

It works. It really really works!

I waited four months to review this product. We have two wooden decks that the raccoons have for years relieved themselves almost on a daily basis. This device (one for each deck) has stopped it cold. They are placed at the top of the stairs on each deck. We have tried every thing in the past, shake away, coyote urine, hot peppers, etc. with no success. Both devices have battery power but can also be plugged in to a outlet for constant operation. Another great feature is a night time setting so our cats won't set it off during the day. We hear the one by our bedroom going off during the night. And wake up to a clean deck. No mess no poison no smells, just the perfect solution to a long time problem. Recommend every one with a raccoon problem purchase this product.
I will keep it simple, it didn't work to ...

I will keep it simple, it didn't work to deter raccoons. A family of them has made a nest up a tree in my backyard. The first day, I set it up to be motion activated. It caught the raccoon from about 12 ft away and it froze by the light and sound show, but was not deterred. It kept a cautious eye and went about its business. I also had a motion activated video camera set up to watch the same area and noticed that the raccoons started ignoring the "sentinel" very quickly. As in from the next day. I have videos of them dancing in front of it! Even the little ones, they had no fear of it. I tried various settings - from always on to motion activated to only at night. Tried it with the sound and without. Tried different frequency settings. Moved it to about 4 feet away from the tree. Nada. They would pass by it as if it wasn't there. After about 3 weeks, I returned the thingy.
Working well on skunks, but not easy to adjust controls or move around

I bought this specific model because it is the only one I can find that allows you to run it only at night. I want to repel the pesky skunks that dig up our back yar at night, not the birds and butterflies we enjoy during the day. We've been operating it about 5 weeks at this point, and after after finding the right location it has worked beautifully---no skunk damage! Whether the skunks will eventually get used to it remains to be seen.
I am only giving it 4 stars because:
(1) The location of the controls is quite inconvenient---you have to remove the entire unit from its rubber back plate to make any adjustments. The instructions say it is important to keep changing the ultrasound frequency to avoid pest habituation to it, but they make it darn difficult to do that.
(2) The rubber back plate doesn't fit very well, and the main front part keeps coming loose. This may be a problem if we ever see any rain here in So. California. As others have noted, it is also quite difficult to put the unit onto this back plate
(3) This device is not easy to move around (which here again the instructions say you should do to avoid habituation). I have built a wooden stake with a cross bar at the top in a 'T' configuration in order to be able to move it around, but I still have to get the electric power to it.
I wish Aspectek would add the day/night controls to the solar version of this device, which is designed for portability. It seems to me controlling when the device operates is a feature many people would want. On the other hand, the remote control on this device seems totally unnecessary to me---I can't imagine ever using it.

Bye bye, raccoons!

I have a small pond outside the bedroom just for frogs and fish. It has a wrought iron gate around it, but the raccoons find their way into it and tip over the spitter and otherwise wreak havoc. I bought a different brand alarm that didn't work at all, and it did not have a day/night option, so I was setting it off everytime I went into the yard or a squirrel walked by.
Then I ordered this model. What a difference! The very first night the alarm went off in the middle of the night. I took a flashlight to the window to see a fat raccoon bolting for the back fence. What a delight! The alarm has gone off several other times and frightened off the coons, and I have had no damage in my pond since using this device.
I see some people have complained that this unit didn't work for their particular target animal. That hasn't been my experience. I specifically only have a problem with raccoons, and if you read the excellent manual carefully, there are tweaks to the settings that can perhaps narrow down your target animal.
Also, a product is only as good as its service. I had an issue and contacted customer service. They were EXCELLENT in resolving the issue.
