High quality, sturdy, but a very pointy tip
rolfdenver•May 5, 2017
The only reason I'm downgrading this pen just a bit is that the tip is a bit too pointy for my likes - I'm worried it may poke through my shirt or pants pockets, it's that sharp. I hope I'll never have to use it as a weapon because it will certainly do some damage. I can see this pen being useful as an awl or in other situations where a hole needs to be driven. The pen itself works well and the Fisher write-anywhere ink is great.
Well designed, even for writing
Jerry•April 13, 2017
I've had a few of these tactical pens and I like the Columbia River version the best. Unlike other large-caliber pens the narrow waist on this one makes it comfortable for writing. The cap clicks firmly on both ends and the smooth end to the cap can serve as a solid surface against your thumb if a stabbing motion becomes necessary.
As an aside, on a recent flight I neglected to put it through the carry-on x-ray scanner and it did not set off the metal detector. On a different flight TSA noticed it in the x-ray scanner and tried to take it but I had a supervisor intervene who agreed its allowed onboard.

Pretty nice tac pen. Only four stars for country of origin.

Would give it 5 stars, but it's made in China (come on CRKT, I'd gladly pay more for an American made product). Otherwise, great pen. Very discrete. Doesnt appear "tactical". Even have received compliments on it's appearance. Function as a tac pen is pretty formidable. Could definitely shatter glass or pentrate things that warrant it. May get slippery if any "fluids" get on it. Hope to never find out. Writes well and comes from the factory with a Fisher insert. Nice storage case. Not bad at all for $40 bucks. It's a keeper. Goes everywhere I go.
Great pen AND a great case!

This is an outstanding tactical pen....a great writing instrument as well as a great self defense tool! AND, the case it comes in kinda helps soften the $37 price tag! LOL
I carry this at work everyday and have written with it everyday as well. I took it apart when I first got it to replace the cartridge with a Fisher space pen refill and found that that's what it comes with already! It is a very good writing pen and the sleek design looks very nice and an unintimidating look to it unlike some tactical pens that look like weapons. As a self defense weapon this will DEFINITELY get the job done. Solidly built and a point on it that is very painful and could easily puncture if used full force impact.
The only drawbacks I have found would be with the clip. It is extremely tight which can be good or bad depending on how you carry it. And its very high on the cap which means it rides very deep in the pen slot of my uniform. That combined with the really tight clip, and hardly having any pen sticking out to grab, makes it hard to get out sometimes. You could bend the clip slightly to loosen it up if this is an issue for you.
Along with the awesome pen, it comes packaged in a VERY nice zippered ballistic nylon hard case! I pulled the foam pen holder out and now it easily carries two tactical pens, a mechanical pencil, a sharpie and an extra pen refill and leads.
I highly recommend this pen.

It is nice but the thread pitch for the tip that holds ...
MR•June 3, 2016
For $40 I was expecting more. It is nice but the thread pitch for the tip that holds the ink is very fine. I can see it stripping easily. Also when the cap is on either side of the pen, it is loose. If you shake the pen back and forth you can hear it moving. It doesn't fall off but it isn't as secure as it should be. The ink that comes with it is okay. I put in a Fisher space refill and I prefer it much better.
I also purchased the Zero Tolerance pen which is leaps and bounds better than the CRKT. It is also more than double the price but definitely worth it.
