I have trouble setting the date. I does eat a lot of batteries when using it to log data onto card. However it was successful in getting police to give upstairs neighbor with a $30.00 citation for her excess noise. If things continue, I hope it gets a judge to give her a hefty fine. The HOA is also accessing her with fines so it is doing the job for which it was purchased.
I watched you tube videos in order to figure out the data logger and it seems to work but I want to set it to record noises over

Unable to set it on slow and it does not power off when I push the power button. I watched you tube videos in order to figure out the data logger and it seems to work but I want to set it to record noises over time which they recommend doing on slow setting and I have not yet been able to figure out why it won't let me set it to slow.
Happy with purchase, great quality

Bought this to document loud neighbors. Everything works great, no troubleshooting necessary. Imports logs to excel like a pro! Eneloop batteries last at least 24hrs, so I set it up where I want early in the morning when the drunks are asleep then let it run all day & night.
Be sure to go in advance settings and turn off beeps etc. I wish the manual was more clear for novice users but it turns out default settings are fine. The only real complaint is that you have to re-set date & time when you replace batteries, but it keeps your other advanced settings.
If you have to place this near wet trees or bushes take a 1 gal Ziploc bag, cut it in half, staple then slide it in. I also cut the sleeve off an old army green long sleeve shirt and used it for camouflage. It doesn't come with a foam head so I had to buy one separately.

Decent unit. Works as expected.

Works as expected. Easy to use. Seems to really pick up extraneous noise. Very easy to download the data to a spreadsheet and graph it. I'm using this to prove to the apt complex management that my neighbor is loud all the time. I think it will do the trick. I did have to mount it on a tripod and raise it up as close to the ceiling as possible in order to get the best pickup of that low noise of my neighbors kids running wild.
Batteries only last a day if it's on 24 hours, and I tried to use my own AC adapter and it's not powering the unit. That seems real crappy.

It works as it should

Great device, easy to use, has external sd slot for easy data logging. Data is dropped to a CSV file so excel is your friend. Simple to use and operate. Do recommend getting some sort of caring case with it though. I purchased both the CEM DT-8851 & 8852 and returned them for the extra money this device is the one to go with. The other devices do not work as they should when it comes to data logging, plus there is software which is vital to operation unlike this one. Simple turn it on select data logging and boom data to the sd. Once you are done SD to the computer and the data opens up in excel.
