The touchpad is “touchyâ€

I'm slightly disappointed in this product. I had to send the first one back because the touchpad was not responsive 100% of the time. Much to my dismay, the replacement pad is the same. Sometimes it does not respond when touched and has to be activated With multiple attempts. This is annoying since I use the timer for coffee brewing. sometimes it is necessary to touch the pad multiple times to get it to start timing.
Does the “new model†no longer measure tenths of a gram? (updated)
Louis I. Jaffe✓ Verified Purchase•November 3, 2023
I've been using one of these for years with no problem, and just bought another to use at a different location. It's a "new model," though it differs but minimally from before. For one thing, it now has a region-setting option that's supposed to compensate for gravity variations in different places(!) For another, the way it handles tenths of a gram is a bit different. In the earlier version of this review I was puzzled by the difference, but now I understand and am fine with it. This is a simple and reliable device that does what it's supposed to do.
Accurate but buttons are not the best

I've been making coffee every morning using use my scale for either chemex or V60 for about a decade now. My last scale finally measured out it's last cup of beans so I needed to upgrade. I previously had a cheaper "Escali" scale and it lasted about two years but really didn't seem all that accurate. This Hario seems precise and consistent as I would expect from Hario. Unfortunately, the buttons are not. They are not physical buttons but rather the kind that are under the seamless plastic and use pressure to use. I assume they designed them this way to prevent water from getting in which is smart as I have occasionally had this issue in the past with drips. The problem is you have to really press hard multiple times before it registers the input. It makes me think I am going to damage the machine. It's almost a perfect but comes up short.
Stopped working after 2 months

The media could not be loaded. UPDATE: Warranty team responded same day and sent a replacement. They said there was a batch that had electrical issues. The replacement is working perfectly so far! Very happy with their service.
Original Review:
Got this to replace previous Hario V60 that lasted for 10 yrs. I used this under normal conditions, only for pour over coffee.
Video shows how the scale has been working after first 2 months:
0:00 - 0:16 secs: the scale always starts with "UNSt" displayed whenever I turn on the scale and never zeros unless something is placed on the scale before turning it on.
0:16 - 0:42 secs: starting with scale off and something placed on top of it - when I turn on, it still starts with "UNSt" displayed - and it takes 25 seconds to "zero" (my old one would only take a couple seconds)
0:42 secs til end: Even after it reaches "zero" the reading starts counting up on its own (without changing anything that is placed on top of the scale).
I've been hoping it will just start working - but after a couple more months, it's still the same.
Will try to submit a warranty claim . . . hopefully, Hario will respond and make good on their warranty (they make you pay shipping apparently). Otherwise, a few months of use was really not worth the purchase price. Could have gotten a basic kitchen scale for a quarter of the price.

Accurate and well made

This scale reacts quickly and weighs to the tenth of a gram, so the accuracy is very good. It's a bit picky about the button pushes, and I found that it takes two firm pushes of the on/off switch to turn it on, and a short push followed by a long to shut it off. The scale is well made but the display is not particularly bright and seems to be the old type of liquid crystal display. Not a big deal as it's readable, and as it's battery operated I'm thinking that type of display will extend the battery life. The scale stays on for five minutes if not touched, which I personally like. It's long enough that, if I have to grind a bit more coffee in the middle of a weigh, I can do it without the scale shutting off. All in all I like this little scale, and I'm sure it will serve me well for many years to come.
