It works and it does not cost all that much
Deal SeekerFebruary 6, 2017
I was not so sure when I bought it but thought at the price it was worth a try. Well to my surprise it works. It does not work with pots that have a pour spout. Imagine that. So my favorite pot that has a strainer in the lid and a pour spout is not helped by this product. But when used properly it works just fine. Cleans up easy enough and does not take up too much space. I had wash so I cannot say a thing about a dish washer but see no reason why it would not clean up just fine. I think the only negative is that it is two pieces which is more of a personal thing than a real drawback as it allows you to vent your pot if you wish or cover it and it allows for both parts to be easily cleaned.
First try FAIL, then SUCCESS!

I bought this for my wife who always made a mess boiling steel cut oats. Our first attempt was a failure. The silicone lid has a small center portion that, if you bend back, reveals some vent holes. I tried gently twisting this center cover - it didn't move. I could bend it back but it didn't seem to come off or be adjustable.

With no instructions provided, we just put the silicone cover over our pot and within a few minutes, it was "boiling under" from where the lid meets the pot rim. The seal between the pot and the silicone was weaker than the seal of the little cover on the top of the silicon lid so everything was oozing out under the lid.

I took the lid off and while washing it noticed that the little top *does* come off. It's not attached at all. Don't know why I couldn't originally take it off. Maybe it partially fused together during manufacture/shipment?

So, we tried again but this time offset the center cover slightly so that a few of the vent holes were partially open (see photos). This time, it worked like a charm! Some liquid boiled out through the vent holes but stayed confined to the lid. The stovetop stayed perfectly clean.

Worked perfectly again the next time. Only remaining issue is that it's a bit tricky to lift the lid up to stir the contents without spilling what's trapped in the top of the lid.

She uses this with a 3qt pot (7.5" diam) on a gas stove. The flame is low enough that it doesn't extend past the edge of the pot. The manufacturer's claim that this lid should work with 6-10" pots seems reasonable.
It works!

It works! In the pictures I am boiling potatoes, and the bubbles are clearly over the pot height, but no mess! Great product!
It's works for me!

It kinda curls up so I put the pot lid on top removing the center piece!
Overall I'm happy with this product!
Problem solved!

I have been frustrated by the fact that now matter how I manage the temperature, no matter what size pot I use, no matter how high (or low) I fill it, whenever I cook beans (pinto, kidney, etc.), the pot comes close to boiling over. With my flat cook top, the constant overflow of drops of water was bothersome. Using this product instead of the normal lid for my pots has eliminated the problem. Foamy water does gather on top (as pictured), but it stays there and isn't splattering all over the stovetop. Of course, you still have to be sensible in terms of how high you fill the pot and you have to mind the temperature, but if you do all those things, and still get spillover, then this could help you.
