I'm mixed on this purchase, I called before I bought this item to ask them if for some reason I have Steele rafters can I still use this item, I was told ABSOLUTLEY!!! I was also told that it's a simple installation process and if we had any problems we could contact saferacks...Um well that,s definitely not how the whole process was!! Sure enough we had the steele rafters up there, we called saferacks and was told that they could not recommend ANYONE or ANYTHING to us due to liability... So the end results was.....Its still sitting in my garage taking up space...If you have wood beams then this probably would have been great...
Even with a difficult installation I still like them.

I had a challenging installation as there was a "grid" of metal on which the drywall was hung. The stud finder "found" the metal, but the wood joists were 3/4" above the drywall (which the stud finder couldn't pick up). As a result, I had to cut an observation hole so I could measure to wood joists. Once that was done I was able to measure and install the brackets properly. I had to use longer lag bolts as a result. I have a heavy duty DeWalt impact gun and I gave one bolt too much torque and snapped it off.
But once the brackets were in the installation went forward smoothly. These racks are far easier to install on unfinished ceilings or finished ceilings where the drywall is attached directly to the joists rather than a metal ceiling grid. Once up the racks look great and are sturdy.
When I first discovered I was drilling into metal I called SafeRacks (as instructed in the installation manual) and found they weren't very helpful. The instructions tell you they are made for wood joists. When I called I expected to be told how to install on metal joists, but instead I was told I'd have to find an installer who could do the job. The rep even suggested calling Angie's List. After that frustrating phone call is when I cut the observation hole so I could stick my head up in the ceiling to see what was going on. Although the metal grid made the installation more difficult, I was thankful there were wood joists to attach to.

couldn't be happier with this purchase...very nice clean look....got every tub off the garage floor and tubs out of the shed... installed it so it would hold two tubs stacked...holds weight fairly well i am pretty sure we are well above the weight limit and it BARELY sags..Easy fix use some aircraft cable to support in middle But not a big deal....installation is pretty self explanatory I used the pictures and installation instruction that came with the package. did it by my self not sure how long time it took but i drank 2 beers while installing LOL would have been a lot easier if I had one more person...IF YOU DONT WANT TO BUILD YOUR OWN OUT OF WOOD THIS IS THE PRODUCT FOR YOU!!!
So far so good. for the cost and ease of installation

So far so good. for the cost and ease of installation. I only put 2 /12 up then fell and injured myself so back on a ladder to finish. My entire garage ceiling will be covered with these things, exept for the few feet in between to access. Finding the exact center of studs was a puzzle, even with stud finder and over 490 years experience. I am going up in attic to try and drive a couple nails down through both sides to make things more evident. Also I did go to hardware store and bought a box of hardened Wood screws and the metal screws adding lock washers to those. Otherwise for the price they are great.

This rack is a very well made product and wasn't too difficult to install. If you know how to measure and follow directions you can have this up fairly quickly. Being I live in a townhouse storage space is at a premium. I wanted to use the garage for my car and this made that possible.
