Highly recommended!!

I absolutely love this thing.
It works really well and has some really nice features.
The only gripe I have, and it's not worth taking a star away, is the speaker inside this thing is so loud when it completes scanning the cable.
I took it apart and put some take over it and made it quieter.
Other than that I highly recommend
all in all, a great product and a necessity for data cabling!!!!

OK, i bought this to replace my defective triplett wiremaster xr5. my base unit still worked but the remote module pin 1 was defective. i don't need length testing, but pin testing on rj45 cat5/6. i have used other ones that scroll through each pin - takes forever. i wanted one similar to my wiremaster in which you connect the ends and press the button and you get lights 1 through 8, a connected light or a crossover light pretty instantaneously.

it has been since 2006 that i have had my wiremaster xr5. i had paid $100 for it back then. boy was i shocked at the cost of this one and many others, to be honest. after searching through many different types, i decided on this model however it appeared that this items was sold under many different names at varying prices. i chose this one because it was in the middle price-wise. it was a great price and does exactly what my $100 wiremaster xr5 did. now, granted, wiremaster is no longer manufactured, but you can still find them online for around $40.00 which is more than double what i paid for this one.

the cool thing, the remote module works with my wiremaster xr5. however, i will continue to use this one as it is smaller and more compact. and it seems to be a bit faster between tests. i can press the connect button and it produces results instantly. i can press again with a second and it retests. the wiremaster took about 5 seconds to reset between tests.

all in all, a great product and a necessity for data cabling!!!!
Great tester

We moved into a place without any cat5/6, phone or coax wiring. A friend did the working, but we did the ends. This was great for testing our work.

If you're doing a project like this, I highly recommend using a spring loaded punch down tool; we had to redo a few ends dinner with the plastic ones. This tool made it obvious which ones.

There are some YouTube videos out there if you're not quite sure how to use it.
Perfect for finding continuity in ethernet RJ45 cables
Robert RoseNovember 2, 2015
Perfect for finding continuity in ethernet RJ45 cables, phone RJ11 cabling, long USB cables, coaxial BNC cables, or identifying which cable is from which room in a network closet. The plastic case is okay if you just use it on occasion. Also tells you if the cable is shorted, or mis-wired. It also identifies crosstalk between cables and crossover cables. I bought a house with in-wall ethernet wires and needed to connect cables at a junction box to make specific rooms "go live." With this box and jumper cables (plus F-F adapters) the job got done.
Nice little meter
MathieuJune 27, 2015
Nice little meter. I checked only the RJ 45 (Ethernet) cable, but it worked great and I found my problem immediately.

The rub is: even thought it is advertised as checking USB cables (and I'm sure it does) it checks only the old Type A to Type B connectors. I wanted it for Type B mini. Alas, no luck. The connectors on the device are for the Type B (look at the picture closely) connector, and I can't find an adapter anywhere (I'm still looking though). There are many adapters on the market but no Type B mini Female to Type B (original) Male. You'd think that would be a popular adapter, but apparently not.

Except for that one little (NOT) thing, this meter is just what the doctor ordered. If I find an adapter, I'll post it here.
