Wonderful experience.

Works awesome. I reused my old ribbon cable because it didnt have sticky amazon void sticker on it because i didnt want any friction on the drive shuttle due to the amazon void sticky touching the top housing. Goo-b-gone woulda worked too, but i wasnt trying to win awards, i just wanted my blu ray working fast. Beautiful packaging presentation, these guys made parts replacement a fun time. Just use your old ribbon or leave the sticker there and just snip it rather than peeling it possibly.
Works great, got my launch system going again

Took about an hour to install just need a Small Phillips screwdriver, regular Phillips screwdriver and the included torx screwdriver a little patience and kinda steady hands. Unscrew about 12 screws, unplug about 6 wires, put the old daughter board on the new drive and put it all back together. Hardest part was getting the top plastic shell off, there was a tab that had to be pushed in on the one back corner. Google ifixit ps3 disk drive replacement for a step by step guide. It's easy you can do it to.
PS3 Lives Again

I was able to complete the transfer of the controller board and metal housing in about 30-minutes. The drive appears to work fine and saved my PS3 from the scrap pile. Its hard to say if the drive is new or not, the drive I got had fingerprints on it, but they may have been put on the drive by Amazon when they placed an Amazon warranty sticker on the drive. Who knows? Time will tell, but my PS3 is working again.
Solid.

It's been great so far. Easy enough to install (though I do have experience with computer construction/maintenance), especially with the help of a video on youtube. Seems well-built, though it is slightly louder than the blu-ray drive that came with the PS3. As far as questions about durability go, just get the warranty that amazon offers on it. It's like $5 for two years. $50 to get at least another two years of life out of my PS3? Hell yeah.
Intermediate level repair but PERFECT product!!

Alright, I gotta say, this was my first time and last resort to fix my old Playstation 3. For the most part, this is an intermediate level fix for a broken PS3.
A guide on a ribbon cable fell off during installation, and I had to improvise with some crafting glue dots to glue the guide back on. Also there is a very tiny cable that MUST be plugged in order for the drive to work. I accidentally snipped the tiny wires on it with my tweezers! Luckily, the old drive had the same hookup, so I was able to take that one and install it to the new drive (whew)! Anyway.. now my PS3 works like new, and I have a working body of knowledge on repairing it! Instead of paying $150 to Sony, or potentially buying a new PS3 for $200, I paid $50 for this and fixed it myself!!
