I take this to help me get to sleep
pcgupstate✓ Verified Purchase•July 24, 2023
Helps me get to sleep, but doesn't help sleep though the night. I have mild restless leg and this helps to block it. It makes my legs feel heavier and by doing this, my legs don't have the urge to jerk. One side effect of this gaba supplement is that I and others may get a slight shortness of breath about 5 to 10 minutes after consumption. I read that this is normal and subsidies quickly. One more thing about restless legs. I have found that anything that increases serotonin may aggravate it. A couple of things are l theonine and diphrenhydramine
Works great!

I immediately decided that if I didn't like the gabapentin

For some years now I have been seeing an orthopedist who has worked patiently with me in the development of pain management regimens for the conditions for which I've seen her. Her most recent regimen suggestion was gabapentin, which I researched before deciding to try it. One of the things my research uncovered was that gabapentin attaches itself to the same receptors as GABA. I immediately decided that if I didn't like the gabapentin, I would try the GABA.
I didn't like the gabepentin! My ortho stepped me up to 300mg 3 times a day. At that dose, I was foggy a lot of the time, and those thoughts I could order decently, I struggled mightily to communicate clearly. Emotions were magnified, and I tended to react hypoglycemically to normal hunger. I didn't notice that I felt any different without it than I felt with it, although a higher dose, if I could have tolerated it, might have changed that. As it was, I stepped myself back down to only 2 doses of 300mg, which vastly improved my ability to think and communicate but still left my emotions magnified and my hunger reaction akin to having symptoms of a hypoglycemic reaction.
So it was a surprise to me that I also noticed that I was starting to lose weight. That part, I liked!
So when I made the decision to come off the gabapentin"”I realized that I would have a dependency issue with it if I continued"”I began looking for sources of GABA. It took me awhile to actually buy it, but having now been on it for almost three weeks, I'm glad I tried it. stepped up on it the way I did with gabapentin, except that I didn't feel the need to be on it a week before going from a dose at bedtime to my current regimen; instead I went up by day 5. I take 1/8 level teaspoon when I get up and when I go to bed. I noticed at first some of the same effects as I had on the gabapentin but at a more tolerable level. I do notice that it seems to play with my appetite a little, but I don't notice weight gain, which was one of the more concerning possible side effects of gabapentin that, thank God, actually happened in reverse for me. I may stay on my current dose for awhile longer before deciding if I can, or want to, raise the dose, but so far, I have no major complaints.
