Cracked a big solid rock

The biggest drill I have is 7/8 inch that came with my Chinese hammer drill. So I drilled four holes, 9 inches deep. After about 24 hours a crack appeared and reached a width of about 1/4 inch. I had a mini excavator to use to separate the rock and it came apart. Without the machine a steel wedge might have worked. After I removed the first part of the rock, I drilled four more holes and cracked it again and now what is left is below ground level.
Calculating the amount to use resulted in a lot of waste. My four holes only needed about two pounds of material. I calculated .29 oz of H2O per ounce of grout. So 9.25 oz H2O for one pound grout.
The stuff is made in China and In my opinion is over priced compared to the cost of material used to make this stuff but it got the job done so it was worth the cost to me.

I tried Dexpan after researching similar products on the internet. My only other option would have been to contract with a LARGE excavator in order to remove this giant boulder from the center of a deer food plot. Unfortunately, I only had a rotary hammer drill that would accept carbide tipped masonry bits that were up to 1 1/8" diameter. You will need a rotary hammer drill that is SDS-Max in order to use the recommended 1 1/2" inch diameter bits.
Despite not following their directions precisely, the Dexpan effectively cracked the giant stone in multiple locations. The timeframe took longer than 24 hours as the product advertised, but I attribute this to the smaller diameter drilled holes. For almost two full days, I saw no reaction whatsoever. On day three when I checked the stone, there were multiple cracks throughout, and I was able to break the stone apart using a pry bar and sledge hammer. I highly recommend this product, and will use it again. Just be patient, it WILL work!!!

Drilling the holes suck, but seeing the cracks grow is awesome.
