Got a new honda 2200i for camping mostly, but after loosing power last winter I needed a backup solution to keep the heat on through the worst of it.. this thing was a piece of cake to install, rewired it for a unbonded neutral/ground generator and this winter I'm ready for a power outage.

If your a furnace installer in a dangerously cold climate, IMO you should install these by default or offer it as an addon.. I wish mine had when I paid a small truck load of money for a new furnace a few years back.

I purchased this manual transfer switch for my gas furnace. I chose EZ switch since it was relatively easy to install, designed to switch the neutral and had a UL certification. The 2200W Honda inverter generator(EU2200i) I utilize does not have a the neutral bonded to ground. To protect the generator against a miswired extension cord or some other issue it is best practice to switch both the hot and the neutral. To provide redundent protection against failure of the EZ switch; I replaced the furnace switch with a dpdt switch and had it break both the hot and neutral. This dpdt switch provided the primary feed to the EZ Generator Switch. This makes more sense than a switch just ahead of the furnace as shown in the EZ switch wiring diagram.

I would of liked to of had the wires longer than the 24" provided with the EZ Switch. I was forced to butt spice another 12" on. There are 2 white wire utilized. I would of liked if one of them a stripe to indicate the differences rather than a tag. I wish the wiring diagram had numbers identifying the wires in addition to tags. This way if you extended the wires you could number tag the wires.

This is an expensive switch for what it is but it seems built well. The UL certification does not guarantee the quality of the switch but merely that certain standards were met. EZ switch company paid a lot for the certification which likely contributed to the high cost.

Installed this unit to get my heating system back on during power outage due to a winter storm.
Instructions are excellent. Qulity of the parts, assembly and crimped wires are all good.
The product is not hard to install for someone who is handy, understands or can figure out electrical stuff and generators..
Since 2 electrical boxes need to be connected together for this unit to work for most of the applications, it would have been nice for EZ Generator to include conduit nipples and insulator to make it a kit.

I was looking for a single transfer switch to use on my furnace in case of a power outage in the winter. The EZ Generator Switch fit my needs. It was highly rated, less expensive than most others, UL listed, and the web site's videos looked simple enough for me to install myself. While I was still trying to determine just how many starting watts the furnace would need and which generator to buy, I decided to have an electrician install the switch. Unfortunately, the installation didn't work because the wiring was for a bonded neutral generator and my Champion Duel Fuel Inverter has a floating neutral. After getting an email from the seller through Amazon checking on my satisfaction and requesting a review, I replied to Kevin the owner of EZ Generator Switch. We were in touch by emails, with a picture of my switch's wiring, and phone call. He was very helpful to talk me through what was wrong with the electrician's wiring and how to correct. The next day, after reviewing the installation video and with Kevin's instructions, I re-wired it myself and it worked! In hindsight, I should have bought the generator first, or at least known if generators I was considering were bonded or floating neutral. Knowing that, the installation is very easy and I am now very satisfied with this purchase. Also, the electrician replaced the furnace shut off switch with the EZ switch rather than putting the box next to the shut off switch box as shown in the company video. This made sense since the EZ Switch has an off position if you needed to shut off the power to the furnace. Connecting the wires this way in the EZ Switch box worked fine. Finally, the customer service from Kevin at EZ Generator Switch was amazing!

While researching whole house generators I came across the EZ Generator Switch and liked its reviews. I've since installed a whole house generator. However, I feel that the most important areas to function during a cold weather power outage are heat and water. Call me paranoid, but if for any reason my whole house generator malfunctioned, I wanted a backup for heat and water. Since the on/off switch at my furnace location controls both the furnace and my well pump relays (have a portable generator to run my well pump during a power outage), I thought it would be good to install your EZ switch at that location. Since I have a second portable generator, why not? I'm attaching a photo of the EZ Generator Switch installation. Great design and EZ instructions and installation!
