It's a very rigid plastic covered in faux felt. Maybe this is for some people, but you can find a better quality hat at a toy store for half the price. L/XL is optimistic at best. If you have a larger than medium head, this will be uncomfortable and will not stretch to fit your head, because it's plastic.

We wanted a hat that was more folded I guess you could say and because the material is different we did not want to risk breaking it. Good price and shipping was accurate.
