Usual Porter Cable Quality Tool
ChiefDecember 9, 2017
Got this to add to my other PC 20V tools and I am very pleased with my other and this will work great for me when I don't have power outlets. I have not tested it fully, but I suspect that this toll will eat a fully charged battery in about 20 min of continuous sawing operations. I am of the desire to swap batteries out every 20 min than to deal with an extension cord so to each his own. I will use this to prune trees around my property and I want cordless. I have never had a problem with any of my PC tools and if I did I think they would stand behind them. I go to some local swap meets and see some very old corded PC tools out there still working so for the average DIY homeowner, PC is a good selection over the more expensive DeWalt & Milwaukee items.
Grate tool for the price.

I was really torn between 3 and 4 stars. I think for the most part this is a good tool. The blade change is tool less quick and easy. It is powerful enough to cut off hardened steel bolts, and 6 inch diameter branches with no problem WITH the right blade. The only problem I have, and the only reason I didn't give it a higher grade, is because the blade is a bit sloppy in the tool.
100 feet away from electric source not a problem just saw away

Have always wanted a reciprocating saw but never could justify one, especially a corded one. Then after obtaining the Porter Cable 20V battery operated drill and battery packs I saw their reciprocating saw worked with the same batteries. Now that I purchased it I have found many uses for it and it is so handy without worrying about extension cords. It has come in very handy in pruning trees on the property.
Great tool! Easy to maneuver, tons of bottom end and light weight. Good batteries, too!

Great tool! I prefer it to my old Dewalt and a relative's new Ryobi. It is both lighter and shorter, so you need to be ready to hang on when you pull the trigger. Easy to use. Very simple blade changes, and it packs a ton of punch in that short, strong frame! I just tore out a non load bearing wall in minutes yesterday and this thing wasn't even breathing hard soooo....I cut down a tree in my yard I've been wanting to get rid of! Live, wet branches up to 5 inches this time and it zipped right through them, too! A LOT of this tool depends on good new blades like any other saw, but it's got back end drive and torque to turn loose on anything and it's short enough to reach spots I couldn't reach with either my Dewalt or the Ryobi. I REALLY like this one, and I've already got the drill and circular saw to match batteries!
Clean and fast with plenty of power

I can't praise this tool enough! Previously, I had bought a Porter Cable drill/driver that came with two 20-volt MAX Lithium batteries. Since they are the same ones needed for this reciprocating saw, I ordered the bare tool (without batteries). I love that these batteries can remain in the charger all the time (well, one at a time!). Saves having to power cycle the batteries like you do with NiCads.

A week after it arrived, my neighbor's 25 foot pine tree was felled by severe winds. It came crashing down almost entirely into my yard. To remove it, I attached a custom tree branch cutting (pruning) blade to the Porter Cable reciprocating saw. I made the blade by grinding the end of half of a manual pruning saw blade into the standard shape needed for attaching it to the saw and drilled a hole near the end for locking it into the saw. With thick leather gloves on, I pulled on the blade to insure it was secure before power testing it with a battery in place. Be sure to wear eye protection! (I later found a generic pruning saw blade for standard reciprocating saws for sale in a box store that was not as sharp and irregular as my homemade one and it cost twice as much as a replacement blade for the manual pruning saw did.)

I sawed the 6" trunk at the property line, then proceeded to saw off numerous side branches. This had been a full, healthy pine tree with branches up to 8 feet in length. The trunk had to be sawed through in two more places so I could carry the large pieces away. I used one fully charged battery and most of the second battery. Not bad considering the amount of sawing involved!

The saw is surprisingly powerful and fast moving for its weight. I try to avoid smelly, noisy gasoline powered chain saws and corded electric chain saws with their long extension cords, so this was a clean and easy alternative. I have a very heavy Black and Decker corded sawzall that doesn't work any better than this lightweight Porter Cable portable reciprocating saw. To top it off, the Porter Cable doesn't require you to carry a hex tool to loosen and tighten the blade like the B&D corded one; it has a simple twisting collar that snaps back into place to hold the blade securely. Even my homemade blade!
