I saw one of these for the first time at my sons house. As soon as he explained how it worked I ordered one on the spot. The advantage is when you have guests. We would always run out of ice and forget to buy bagged. With this machine you never run out. If you don't use all the ice it melts and is recycled back into ice. If your fridge maker runs low you can dump the excess from the portable in. A friend of ours lives in a small apartment and the fridge is not plumbed for water. He has one on order. I really like this thing.

Love this ice maker! No more running to the gas station for ice. Makes a glass-worth of ice extremely quickly in the size you choose - small or large. Quiet operation...the only time we notice that it's running is when it dumps the tray of freshly made cubes into the collection bin. Recycles any unused melted ice cubes to eliminate waste. Can't wait for camping season to begin so we can use it in the camper and eliminate the need to repurchase ice for drinks and coolers every day. Cha-ching! :)

Review update - ubfortunately it did not last. Changing 5 to 2 stars. It stopped working today after 11 months. Had really come to rely on this unit. Even 2 years would have been satisfactory.

Just started using so can't say how long it will last.I let it sit for half day before turning it on.Clean inside with damp cloth and leave open before using to get rid of new smell.First tray of ice will take awhile until water in tank gets cold normal with all portable ice makers.Makes ice very fast and is quiet only here ice falling to tray.I would recommend it to anyone.
