Purchased multiple of these, and they failed instantly running a 5500W heating element for brewing.

FIRE HAZARD! DO NOT USE ABOVE 20A
CJanuary 18, 2016
The SSR I received was counterfeit and could not handle the 30A/240V circuit that I needed to drive. Based on the breakdown of knockoff SSRs (link at the bottom of this review), the one I received likely contains a TRIAC that is only rated for 20A and not 40A. Because of this, I was getting erratic behavior. For example, the SSR would fail to the closed position if the duty cycle was over 40% or so, but operate as expected if the duty cycle was lower. Long story short, the unit I received melted quite a bit inside the enclosure, despite an ample heat sink. This product is a fire hazard because it is not properly labelled.

Excellent value, note that leads are exposed
AlexApril 28, 2015
These are exactly what I ordered. Great value for hacker/maker projects to interface your DC Arduino/microcontroller with an AC appliance for hobbyist/DIY fun. Be careful when working with AC, and either get the plastic covers to protect the AC leads, or at least cover with electricians' tape for safety. This does not come with any faceplate or other protection, so beware of shocking yourself on the exposed leads! I'm using mine bare to hack a desklamp, but I would recommend a suitable heatsink if you intend to put anywhere close to the 40A rated current through this thing.
not for d/c load switching

for some reason will not switch a dc load. I didn't think it would make a difference to the relay but it does. Probably just fine for a/c applications
