Best choice I've ever made trying to save money!

I completely landscaped our backyard - wow, that was a lot of money! I originally wanted to put a full patio cover in, but that would have been another $20K. Looking at these, I thought I could come up with at least a temporary solution (1 x square, and 2 x triangles) so I ordered them. I attached them at the house just below the second story window frames where I knew there would be a good hold, and then across the hard to the block wall. I was going to tie them all down with steel cable, but figured some black cargo straps would look okay for a bit. They worked great - it all looks great. For under $300 I have a wonderful back yard cover!

Extended story - I've had them for 2-1/2 years now. They've suffered summer in excess of 115 degrees and many winds in excess of 50+ (once extended over 75 mph). I've never taken them down (they are tight, which I think helps). I did just this summer replace one of them. I'm happy to do that as often as they need for the price they, the price they saved me and they way they look.
Love it.

I managed to put this up by myself. Two people would be much easier but it's not difficult at all. Get large screw in c or solid o hooks at hardware store, some turn buckles in case you need to snug it up. Make sure you put the hooks into good solid wood not trim. Be aware that rain and snow will not just pour right through it, it drips. So there is extra weight and pull on it if water/snow is sitting in/on it. It also flaps in the wind so you must have it screwed in properly or it will yank right out. If you can get it taught enough this wouldn't be a problem, but my location is just barely able to get it snug. My fence posts were already in place in concrete so I used them and the wood siding is what I had. I even tied one corner in a knot to tighten it more. It shuts out the sunlight wonderfully and provides great shade. I love it.
So many compliments! Good quality. Be sure to order the proffessional hardware.

This looks so beautiful on our patio. I wanted an outdoor living room and this adds a bit of coziness and comfort to the space. We get so many compliments on our sail. Many people have never heard of them and they are surprised when I tell them how little it cost. Little effort/cost for a big reward = five stars. Buyers may be interested to know: Ours came with a seam but it is more on one side than the other. It doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It did it's job at keeping our patio and house cool. It kept us dry during a light sprinkle. The rain funnels to the middle of the sail and falls onto our patio. I decided to put a galvanized tub there to catch the water so I could save it for my plants. We bought the expensive hardware to make the sail taught - just like the pros do. I had my heart set on making the installation look professional; however, the hardware adds on about 10-12 more inches on every corner. Unfortunately, when we installed it we realized the sail + hardware was too large for our pre-existing pergola. So instead, we installed it with D rings and carabiners. This is not the company's fault, so I will not count that against them, but it would be nice if they offered a 15x15 size. I would be willing to reorder that one since the price is so affordable. 16.5x16.5 is a little large, so it does loosely droop, but we still think it looks nice. It is very relaxing on a breezy day to see the sail billowing in the wind. We had several heavy storms and I never worried about the sail or hardware breaking. Since the air flows through the mesh material the sail was able to take on strong winds. Mind you - we do have our pergola cemented four feet into the ground. We especially love how it makes the patio feel. We feel like we are on vacation when we are out there. We love the crisp white color - it looks beautiful against a deep blue sky.
Larger than expected! Measurements tricky to describe.

It looks more like my heavy screens we had installed for privacy than others who have called it a plastic bag. It's very sturdy, was nicely finished, but much larger than 11.5 x 11.5. I gave it four stars for incomplete measuring in the description. We measured 12.4' from D-ring to D-ring. The center of the sides across the sail do measure about 11+ feet, but the tabs that hold the D-rings are very long, making the sail 12.4 feet across. Adding 30 cm space for either turnbuckles or spring dogleash clips, made it too big for our 12.2 x 12.2 foot area. We found out about the extra 30 cm from the installation instructions. I would have liked to know before I ordered. If you're not familiar with sun shade screening, you might think this is cheap, but the fabric on ours was fine. Color was the color of grey plastic bags, but when over your head, can't tell, just looks grey, what we needed. I have ordered another smaller, unfortunately, can't get another grey small one, at 8 x 10, from this company; but would have if it came smaller.
I do recommend metal poles
DiggsLife✓ Verified PurchaseJune 12, 2016
This is our second Sail Shade. 1st one lasted 5-6 years (with removal in the off-season). I do recommend metal poles, placed 4 feet into the ground, angled out from the center slightly and cemented in place. Well, it depends on "Your" hanging height, square footage of coverage and amount of wind exposure for purchased area - To include Storm Winds that are higher than normal. I DO NOT Recommend WOOD, wood posts (4x4 or 6x6 posts) can twist like a pretzel based on their nature PLUS tension caused my Sail Shade!!! Save yourself, Purchase and install the appropriate sized pole based on your height, square footage, wind speed, application, etc.!!!) Several friends have purchased and installed this exact shade after chillin' under ours!! I WILL Buy AGAIN - in 4-5 years!!
