STAY AWAY FROM THIS REPLACEMENT PITCHER!
NEVADA COUNTRYFebruary 22, 2018
Do not buy this product! The replacement pitcher is costly. This was the 2nd pitcher that broke for me, it is very fragile. The 2nd time I replaced the pitcher, it broke when I pulled the lid out lightly against the sides and the pitcher shattered. This glass is very thin. Another negative is the cost for this replacement tea pitcher, I can buy another tea maker for less money than it would cost to buy just the pitcher replacement for this unit alone. I would stick with the plastic pitcher units that won't break. I bought a 3 qt Mr Coffee unit (black & white) that has a great plastic pitcher with it. Not the acrylic pitcher but the flexible plastic pitcher..Best value for your money and works great.....
Borosilicate is the way to go for iced-tea
jnfalveyJuly 10, 2017
Borosilicate is the way to go. Even better than Pyrex for brewing fresh iced tea, because the ultra-thin glass is tempered to withstand sudden high heat. No worries about pouring boiling water over tea bags, and no worries about lead glazes on pottery. The lid on this pitcher is made to fit under an iced tea machine--like a Mr Coffee for tea--so be aware that the lid has two openings--one for pouring and one in the middle with a bump to press the bottomof the filter basket in the machine. So no air-tight seal, but really that isn't necessary for most applications. Holds 64 oz., which is about 5 regular-sized glasses of iced tea. If you're in the South like I am, that's only about 3 or 4 really big glasses, but that's enough to start with! :)
Better than the original

I purchased this replacement after the crack in my original became too big for comfort. I've found that cracks are likely to happen near the bottom if you set it down too hard or if you keep it in your refrigerator door and bump it as you're taking it out of the bin. It's a matter of handling carefully as it is very thin, but your tradeoff is to boil water in a pot, and then use a funnel to pour into a heavy glass pitcher. Convenience vs. durability is the tradeoff here.

The replacement unit arrived in a branded and illustrated box rather than a plain brown cardboard box. It was well packed and seems to be an original rather than a knockoff. I weighed my original and the replacement for comparison before using. The replacement is 10g heavier without the lid than the original. I would assume that they made the glass thicker in the right places. It fits the tea maker well and I've been through about 5 brew cycles so far with no issues. I'm also hand washing it in cold water with a few spritzes of Clorox bleach cleaner to sterilize it. The temperature changes in the dishwasher probably also contribute to these pitchers breaking. Plus if you over load the dishwasher and shove the shelves back into it as hard as you can like I do you're likely to break this and other glassware as well. With better care than the first time around I expect this to last a lot longer than the original.
The glass is so fragile it's like an egg shell

This item is just dangerous. The glass is so fragile it's like an egg shell. I picked one up by the top instead of the handle because I had to reach over some things in the fridge and the whole thing shattered in my hand and fell on the floor by my feet. I'm lucky I wasn't cut up.
Nice but fragile

The carpresso iced tea maker is convenient to use and makes good iced tea however the glass carafe is very thin and breaks easily. Be careful how you clean it and avoid using metal utensils because it will easily crack the glass
