From Bird Killer to Killer Cute!

Finally, a solution! Of all the measures my husband and I conceived of taking to prevent Einstein from killing birds under our bird feeder, short of never letting him outside, this collar has to be the cheapest and easiest way to remedy the problem. Time will tell if it will be the most effective solution. So far, so good. It's so nice not to have the fear that at any moment he could drag a live bird in the house. It's early in his hunting days, so Einstein has only been capturing them and bringing them in the house live. (We have a flap door that he brings the birds though.) Oh, just to further stymie his hunting efforts, we pinned some loud bells on the collar cover. For his outside life, Einstein now presents as colorful, noisy, and real cute!

We live in the Angeles foothills with lots of coyotes and racoons around, so we had our cat indoors all her life. She really, really urges to be outside though, so we finally let her go. She killed 2 hummingbirds in her first 3 weeks outside. We desperately looked for a solution and found this collar. Had it for 5-6 weeks now and not one dead bird. Very satisfied, definite recommendation.
but annoying nonetheless.

These work really well when you are hoping to find less dead animals in your yard! Unfortunately I can no longer buy them, as my cat is a master at getting them off within a few days of using them. Not the fault of the bird safe collar, as that is just a cover for a regular collar, which is what he is losing, but annoying nonetheless.

I bought this in a last ditch effort to stop the stray female cat that adopted me from killing birds. When I found the 2nd dead hummingbird I was devastated. Killing hummingbirds is a definite NO! I was going to take her to the nearest 'No Kill' shelter until I found this 'Clown Collar'. Besides that the shelter wasn't accepting any cats at the time. During the time she had it on (she came home one day without her clown collar) there were no dead birds brought home. I want to believe it worked, but I have a hard time purchasing another $10 'Clown Collar' for a stray that seems to lose collars.This wasn't the first collar she has lost. I do have to say it lasted about a month and it was a good month. I'm curious if the other cats in the neighborhood made fun of her.......

It might just be a miracle. Granted it has not yet been a month. I have just been doing some weeding outside and the amount of bird noises/warnings in reaction to my cat wearing this collar cover is pretty outstanding. I decided to take it off and see what would happen... less bird noises/warnings. She has not brought in a bird since she has had it on - three weeks. Three weeks is not necessarily a long time - so if anything changes I will come back on and adjust the review. But right now I am very happy and so are the birds!!
