Right away, I have to say that I'm not using this for travel, and I believe for that use, this pillow would work very well....hence the 4 star rating. My needs are very specific, and this isn't the pillow's problem! I use this in bed, where I have to unfortunately spend way too much time. This is a good pillow for that purpose overall, though it is very firm and gave me headaches. The major problem for me is the toggle closure; if it's tight enough to keep the pillow from sliding around my head in a circle too much, then I have to be very careful not to slide downward on my regular pillow, or the neck pillow slides up behind my head and then the hard plastic toggle cuts into my throat. Not a good feeling, especially when you wake up in the night that way! I dk how many people spend a lot of time in bed, but if you do, then you know that sliding downward on your regular pillows is a constant problem. I also pull my shoulders up without realizing it to hold it steady, which really contributes to headaches, and shoulder and neck pain. There are also times when I'll tuck my chin under the toggle to hold the pillow still, but it gets painful pretty quickly!
My previous neck pillow, which I loved until it wore out, had a snap closure, so the soft fabric on my throat wasn't ever a problem, to the degree that I didn't even think about it when ordering a new one. This pillow has not lost it's hard firmness despite being used all the time, and this is causing the severely herniated discs in my neck to become very angry, and it has caused cervical radiculopathy flareups, and migraines. So, I'm unfortunately going to have to dump this and try one with a snap closure and softer support. If you just want it only for travel, though, it should work great.
